Civilization VI released for Linux, video and port report (updated)

Well, going back on topic, what I originally mean to say is that Aspyr didn't have to wait for Vulkan to use all the cores of the CPU, they can do that with OpenGL.

My confusion is, if that is bad for performance, why Feral and 4A Games are doing it? Is that not multithread?

Quoting: M@GOidMultithread is bad in OpenGL? Well, call me skeptical on that.

Anyway, 4A and Feral did it, so technically OpenGL is not blocking a multicore CPU utilization in Civilization VI.
Seriously? Go do some real research you're rather wrong.
Calm down man, I didn't mean to be disrespectful. If I was wrong you could explained why in a more relaxed tone, like M@yeulC did.

This is likely a game that would be a lot better with Vulkan, due to Vulkan being able to make better use of your multiple cores.
I'm not sure about that Liam. If you want to check yourself, Shadow of Mordor and Metro Redux both taxes all the cores you have. So, this can be Aspyr's fault in not implementing multithread on OpenGL, judging by this CPU benchmark on Windows, because there is no way a Bulldozer CPU can come close to a Core i7 in a monothread game:

Quoting: Xpander4770 as recommended cpu.. that means my FX-8320@4,5ghz wont have nice time cranking everything to max?

Ryzen is not far away though :D
The engine Codemasters use is not multithread friendly. It task a single core and let the rest do squat. There is nothing Feral can do to correct that.

I also have a FX8350 but I took a opportunity to buy a friends i7 3770k last year and man, the performance diference in Grid Autosport and some other games are huge. That also occurs in Windows, BTW.

So if Ryzen do it stuff well, I gonna take one too, especially if some manufacturer bother to launch a Mini-ITX AM4 board.

Quoting: M@GOidThere is a way to skip the driver warning on Feral games? Its okay to see it the first time, but annoying when you are playing the games flawlessly for several days.
You can skip it on our newer titles, but not the older ones.
It can be done in Shadow of Mordor? If so, how?

Building Mesa from source, a guide

Tank you for this. I will try it latter. But for AMD users, LLVM is also a important component when running bleeding edge Mesa, especially if you are looking for fixes of bugs. Can you please do a Wiki for how to build it too?

Lars Doucet, a game developer, is asking Valve to open source the Steam Controller software
10 Jan 2017 at 3:46 pm UTC

Speaking of Steam Controller and Big Picture, Valve released support for Xbox Controllers. But for me, enabling then in Big Picture to take advantage of the configs, causes the games to register double input. For example, Assault Android Cactus thinks I have 2 controllers when I an choosing a character and the second player option appear. This is happening in Linux with the One, 360 and Logitech F710 controllers. But in Windows is fine.

Quoting: tuubiThe Metro games proclaim "full controller support" so I assume it's not all hardcore twitch action, but how's the difficulty? Can I expect to enjoy the story even if I'm not that keen on (or very good at) FPS action?
Actually, their control layout was clearly created joypad first then ported to mouse/keyboard, judging by the awful default keyboard bindings.
