Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia confirmed for Linux, from Feral Interactive

Quoting: KimyrielleI am torn on seeing yet another TW game being ported. On one hand, strategy is hands down my favorite singleplayer genre (second only to MMOs), and it's a blessing to have such a great selection of strategy games available on my OS of choice. On the other hand, we have some glaring gaps elsewhere that still needed filling. Such as aforementioned MMOs, but also RPGs in general. If I knew that Feral can and will churn out another dozen AAA games this games, I'd still welcome this release - but if this is going to be one of three high-profile ports we will be getting in all of 2018 (like 2017 felt to me), I'd have opted for something else, given the choice.
Not sure why you say there is a lack of RPGs, there are tons that run native on Linux, and many more on the way! I actually am okay with few MMOs, though not really an MMO, I would love to see Elite: Dangerous ported.

In case you missed these RPGs; Wasteland 2, Shadow Run, Bard's Tale (4 is coming!), Pillars of Eternity, Tyrant, Neverwinter Nights:Enhanced Edition, plus all the other EE games. Of course if you do like old school RPGs, GOG has all the gold box ones wrapped up for Linux too.

I just thought of something. You know how we generally get the port months or years after the original release? This used to be a bad thing, but now with the somehow accepted practice of releasing unfinished games then filling in the gaps with DLC, this is a good thing and maybe the porting houses should just wait for game of the year editions...

Pretty sure one of the Total War games were like that, bought a bunch of DLC to fill in blanks...

Quoting: m2mg2I'm hoping this isn't the shot away from the Feral Radar, but it seems likely as Feral have ported the other Warhammer 40,000 games. I'm hoping for another non RTS game from Feral.
As I wrote pretty clearly, this is not from Feral.
Did you? I'm sorry, I didn't see that. I've read it at least three times and don't see it. Must be going blind, or dumb.
has just been announced by Bulwark Studios and Kasedo Games, it's due this year with Linux support.
Is it not clear enough?
I saw the announcement info, I just didn't read it as though they stated it would be an in house port. My bad.
I didn't infer it either so don't feel bad. I don't think assuming that readers will know those company names and know that it means that Feral is not porting the game is "pretty clear"... But I ain't real bright either, so there's that..
Isn't it a good thing that it isn't Feral porting it? Don't get me wrong, they make excellent ports, but I would MUCH rather see the Linux version be developed at the same time by the same people. And hopefully released at the same time as all the other platforms. If Linux gaming is ever to grow, we need this. I am sure there will always be a place for the porting houses, but I would love for one day to have them hired as contractors to help develop the games for Linux rather than porting them after the fact.

Quoting: x_wingMakes me remember of the Battlestar Gallactica combat scenes. I'll really following this one.
I keep meaning to try it, but there is that BSG conversion for Freespace 2 out there;

Quoting: ShmerlMost of them never come out DRM-free though, so yeah there seem to be many, but far from enough to actually play them :)
At least Freespace 2 is DRM Free (Open Source too!)

Steam needs a "Purchase for Linux where available" option. It is weird for the porting houses especially. And even harder for those games gotten from humble bundle, etc. I am sure they also just go to the original publishers.

The annoying thing about "buy it directly from them" statements is that we all already have too many different accounts everywhere and would prefer not to have to open new accounts on new store pages. This is why I like Steam and GoG.

Though I am guilty of setting up a Beamdog account for the NWN:EE beta.

Yes, at least the last time I tried it. I haven't gotten around to re-installing and trying it again with this new version after I reinstalled my system.

I'll try it and see if it still works, and report back.
Awesome! I need more time to play games....

Quoting: PatolaNice article! Can you do X2: The Threat for Linux next?
I think I can give you one for X3, from LGP:
Despite the shirt being funny, it *never* *ever* worked. (I had the signed box :-) ).
Fortunately X3 and X Rebirth is on steam with full working linux support from Egosoft.
Thanks but I already have and play both (400h on X Rebirth alone), the thing about X2 for Linux is that it's difficult to make it work with current libraries and it is one of those 'rare' games that's difficult to buy.
Been a while since I tried, but I did manage to get X2 working at one point (the LGP release). On the other hand, I have a majority of LGPs games, even got the Loki Heavy Gear 2 working fairly easily.

One commercial game that I've never been able to play under Linux, even since I first got a copy, was Devil's Whiskey. It needed some python work to work with later python versions.

Ha, Then it is discovered that it has been BSD with a shell on it since Windows 8, because they copied Apple?

Just as likely...
Well that would be history repeating itself given that Apple gave ms the GUI and the mouse interface while MS was being courted by apple way back in the late 70's
Not that Apple invented any of those things themselves.
No they stole them from xerox i saw pirates of silcon valley
To be fair, everyone at that time was experimenting with everyone's ideas, that's not as if they were the only ones doing this. Also, that's not as if Xerox was going anywhere close to personal computing with its concept. Companies sell solutions, not ideas.
No Steve jobs legit stole the mouse and gui from xerox which Bill gates then stole off apple and unveiled it in Japan for IBM while being on stage with Steve jobs in the states and according to witnesses Steve jobs said we are better and bill gates laughed and said you dont get it it doesn't matter i was first. The biggest irony is it was Bill gates got jobs fired he was also the share holder of apple that hired him back. Also feel free to check Bill gates was a major share holder of apple until they bought him out.
This is why Apple lived where Commodore and Atari died. Microsoft gave a juicy infusion of cash during the monopoly trials. If it had just happened a few years earlier we could have seen Atari or Commodore get that, though honestly I don't think that would have changed the landscape much. Either Nokia would have finally gotten a clue and had picked Symbian or Maemo, or Atari could have come up with the smart phone. They did have one of the first tablet computers as a prototype.
