Looks like the Linux market share on Steam went up in January

We 'kind of' are allowed to choose OS. Basically we're not bitched at if we use something besides mac/windows, but we're 'on our own' as far as connecting to the VPN and some of the other tools they provide.
But yeah, all the sales/support drones use Windows. I even work with a couple ops guys who chose Windows10 over macOS. I cringe every time I see putty... I did show an engineer CSSH and he about lost his shit when I was typing the same command into 20 systems at once! Thought it was the greatest thing ever.

Quoting: x_wingIt's much less so now, but back in the 80s, people would bring work home with them and ended up buying IBM compatibles because Lotus or whatever didn't run on Amiga/ST.Quoting: razing32Where I work we are free to choose the OS we like (at least at dev level). Almost all the dev teams use Linux (from Fedora to Ubuntu) but, for some unknown reason, support & professional services use Windows with a lot of shitty tools in order to connect to client servers. Even though almost every devs use Windows for gaming at home. Not sure if there is a relation between what you use at work and what you'll be using at home for daily gaming/web browsing.Quoting: slaapliedjeIf we could get more companies to support using Linux on company provided laptops, the desktop market share would also go up.Actually , I used to work for a company related to IBM , and the IBM-ers I spoke to told me they had a choice of Windows or Red Hat since they used Lotus Notes at the time for mail/chat.
Not sure if this still holds true today though.

Quoting: razing32Was that before or after Red Hat stated they no longer cared about the desktop? I can under stand the "we can't support a billion distributions" idea from an IT perspective, but Red Hat Workstation and Ubuntu (as much as I dislike it myself) would be plausible. I am still shocked that mid-7.x release of RHEW, they updated to a newer Gnome-shell.Quoting: slaapliedjeIf we could get more companies to support using Linux on company provided laptops, the desktop market share would also go up.Actually , I used to work for a company related to IBM , and the IBM-ers I spoke to told me they had a choice of Windows or Red Hat since they used Lotus Notes at the time for mail/chat.

Back in 80s, it was said many times, things like "no one was ever fired for buying IBM." What people used at work typically is what people use at home, and I thonk that still partially holds true.
If we could get more companies to support using Linux on company provided laptops, the desktop market share would also go up.
More users there, the more gaming that goes on there.

Quoting: razing32This brings up what I was thinking. I have talked many times with coworkers about using Linux for work and general desktop use. All of them still have this mentality it is crap. They love it for servers, but think it is not useful for general computing, let alone gaming. And I can't help but think that most of this is fed to them through the push by most IT limiting their supported platforms to Windows or macOS.Quoting: wolfyrionActually I beleive that the main reason was that some WINDOWS 10 users were unable to boot there PCs after Microsofts emergency Meltdown-Spectre patch! :DI've seen a few PCs bricked at work , my boss's included.

What does it matter, Linux has long surpassed having more commercial support than the Atari Jaguar. :P

Quoting: KuduzkehpanWhat if Valve buys microsoft first, then open sources it and removes found unsafe codes :D yea welcome to GNU/windows. maybe then we replace kernel and upstart bla bla bla. dx12 with Vulkan. Yea LoL for the night.Ha, Then it is discovered that it has been BSD with a shell on it since Windows 8, because they copied Apple?
Just as likely...

Ha, can't help but think that if EA sold out to MS, then we'd get G4WL part two.
These are the 'We make too much money to sell out' type companies. None of them are hurting for cash. Now maybe if MS bought out what's left of Atari and the next Xbox was the AtariBox.... maybe we would at least get more taco jokes?

Quoting: AlveKattHellblade is cool. I should finish it.Quoting: g000hOk, Sony are the evil bastards that unleashed Blueray and made every damn movie released on the medium encrypted with DRM.Quoting: AlveKattHorizon Zero Dawn. Not an entirely sensible suggestion. It is Sony's game on Sony's hardware. Maybe if one day it gets released on XBOX, Windows, then it becomes something that could be considered.
It's gotten great reviews and the game looks awesome, looks fun and I really want to play it. It's said to have an engaging story and have side quests that feel a lot more interesting and meaningful than those is usual in open world games.
Also, awesome robot animals!
Meanwhile, I notice a lot of these suggestions to Feral are for existing games. There are a lot of upcoming games, which people will be wanting on Linux as soon as they're released.
Games such as these:
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Monster Hunter: World
Sea of Thieves
A Way Out
Far Cry 5
Metal Gear: Survive
Vampyr
Metro Exodus
Skull and Bones
Call of Cthulhu
Anthem
Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord
The triple A indy game, Hellblade: Sinua's sacrifice, it is then. That's my one game port wish.
Hellblade: Sinua's sacrifice is a single player game that if you are to believe Jim Sterling truly elevates "triple A" game making to art.
This game needs to come to Linux. Extremely beautiful and an experience I really want to try.
Depraved, a city builder with survival aspects set in the Wild West will have Linux support

This looks cool. One genre that is sorely lacking everywhere is the Wild West. Just not many games take place there. Still pissed that Rockstar never released Red Dead Redwmption on PC... bought a PS3 just for that game, but of course that requires I leave my computer alone and cold... :p

I wish we could get Elite: Dangerous ported. It's about the only game I reboot into Windows for. I mean lately I decided to win the latest Doom, but other than that it's been all Elite.

They finally fixed the Video scaling when trying to make it full screen! I have the '2k' resolution on my monitor, and it'd always put the video in the lower left corner. Now full screen actually works!
