Quoting: Guesti wish they could put vulkan in tr2013 because the performance issues are really annoying especially if i have a 980ti i should be getting smooth frame rates.hopefully developers will stick with vulkan and just do away with opengl.i may be asking for too much but vulkan is the future.
Same here. The shanty town and some other areas really tank the performance which is frustrating because most of it will be hitting 80+ FPS. I ended up playing the game on Windows on a laptop via an external R9 270X which ran with max settings and just about never fell below 60fps. On Linux my Ryzen 5 [email protected] with a R9 285 cannot compete! So a piece of code is seriously bottlenecking somewhere.

ROTT using Vulkan instead gives me much higher hopes for good performance though.
Keep in mind that Linux version of Tomb Raider 2013 was a port of a Windows port made by Nixxes Software of an original Xbox 360 game made by Crystal Dynamics..

Is like to take photocopy from a photocopy... (Remember the 80's?)

DXVK, the Vulkan compatibility layer for Direct3D 11 and Wine has a fresh release reducing CPU overhead

Just DX11 (and maybe DX10 later). DX9 is different.
I didn't know that...
It will be good to see a performance comparative between DX11 games ported to Linux and DX11 games running via wine with DXVK..

A bit silly even. For that to happen, Square Enix should put these games on gog first.
No, because Square Enix has the publishing rights for Windows... The publishing rights for Linux and Mac are property of Feral..

Quoting: RaymondYes, will buy it but it's so stupid that Square Enix recently had a very good deal on the game (70% off I believe) so close to the release on Linux. I guess many bought the game then and they wont buy the game twice of course, all these sales are already Windows sales....
There is something called TIMING, and Feral was never good at it...

But the real bad guy here is the STEAMPLAY "feature"...
It was OK in the early days of the Steam 4 Linux experiment and the BETA release of SteamOS....
It is OK now if the Linux version and the Windows version has the same publisher....

But STEAMPLAY is REALLY BAD for MAC and Linux publishers like Feral or Aspyr.

C'mon Valve!It is the year 2018!..
If the Linux version of a game has a different publisher than the Windows version, then the Linux version must have a different Steam store page... with even a different full price..

It won't change anything, but I suppose if we can get high numbers maybe we will push both sides to at least consider it.
Nice wish..
I just voted..

But They are married with Valve...

Valve confirms their continued support for Linux gaming

Quoting: stretch611This will never happen. Valve is after all a company looking for profit. Linux is their strategy if Microsoft ever goes nuclear with the UWP/proprietary store options.

With over 90% of steam users on Windows they will never annoy their users with a Linux only release, even if it was just a few days until a windows port. The best we can hope for is the linux version same day as windows. Honestly, Valve will probably strive for this because it is in their best interests. In order to prove that linux is a viable platform, a full featured and supported release cross platforms shows that linux compatibility is a realistic goal. (as the saying goes... eating their own dog food.)

If over the 90% of the Steam users are on Windows is only and only because the big AAA PC games are Windows exclusives....
They illegally download, install and crack a recent Windows distro just for to play those games...
They don't love Windows; They love AAA games..

If a bunch of new AAA PC games were released as timed Linux exclusives (18 months), Those Windows gamers will install a Linux distro supported by the games, just for to play those AAA games before anyone else...

Doom (2016) could have been on Linux, id Software made a Linux version sound easy to do

Big companies like Bethesda earn A LOT of money thanks to Windows; a proprietary system that doesn't belong to them...

Someday, Microsoft will start to demand a big cut of the profit of each software company that earn much money thanks to Windows...

Quoting: Greedy MicrosoftPay me the 30% of the net profit that you have thanks my product, Windows...
Or pay me just 1% if your Windows product is available exclusively at the Windows store...Or just stop using MY OS
Big Companies like Ubisoft, EA, Activision, Bethesda, THQNordic and Square Enix won't have a problem with this... They will just join the Windows Store exclusivity, because they don't care about freedom, they care about profit...

But GaveN....
It will be really funny to see the face of Lord GabeN when this happen...
Because Valve takes an important cut of each game for windows that is sold via Steam... So, Valve is earning A LOT of money thanks to Microsoft...
Microsoft will feel the right to demand a cut of that gigantic profit that Valve is having thanks to the Microsoft OS.

Quoting: Greedy MicrosoftHey, Fatso!
Pay me the 40% of the net profit that you have thanks my operative system, Windows...
Or pay me just 1% of the profit that you earn thanks to the software for Windows that is sold at Steam store, only if the Windows version of Your steam client is available exclusively at the Windows store...
Or just stop using MY property...
Good luck if You try to convince big players like Ubisoft, Bethesda and Activision to join your failed tech fantasy called SteamOS
MUAHAHAHA!!
GOG will have this same problem, by the way..

Valve has removed the Steam Machine section from Steam

Quoting: elmapulyou can do as many downloads of it as you need, and as many backup copies as well, since it is... DRM FREE.
when you move to a new hardware you just need to grab your copies with you.
I know that!!
But You don't get my point... What happen if GOG close like Desura?..
In this scenario, Your games are yours as long as You have backup copies... (I have a DRMFREE version of Dark Messiah of Might & Magic because of this ^_^)

What happen if all your external drives where You have your backup copies are stolen or destroyed by a fire or lost??..

I'm trying to cover all possible bad scenarios.

Quoting: LeopardThat theory would only real if every internet connection on the world was good enough and stable.

Even when you have best service in your hands , there is still slowdowns and ping occurs. And with all that net neutrality thing going on ; Steam only escape from Microsoft to Isp's arms.

So ; i think local gaming won't be obsolete at any time.
I think the future of local gaming are two:

*Local gaming with a subscription fee..
The EA Access model is the perfect example of this...
In this gaming business model, the EA Origin DRM is justified because all the games that You download and play are not yours; you are just paying 5U$D per month for to access them.

*Local gaming DRMFREE.
You buy it once, You own it forever.. or until the media used as storage of the install files is lost or is broken.

About cloud gaming..
Even in this country of farmers, corrupt politicians and football players called Argentina, We have a cloud gaming service..
The Linux client is not available yet, by the way.. but it will..
