Khronos gives an official update on Vulkan

I'm quite satisfied with my 7850HD's performance under RadeonSI - and I feel a bit insulted by some people here that appear to think AMD is only for mad people atm. I enjoy my Victor Vran, my BioShock Infinite, my Europa Universalis IV, my Witcher 2, and a few more - albeit all on fairly low settings. I understand that people want better performance that that - but imo, it all comes down to priorities. Just as AMD's performance is acceptable to me, others will accept the closed-source nature of NVidia. Ofcourse I'd rather see more people on my side, but to each his own.
As to Vulkan, I still hope to see it in January, even though the first I'd use it will be later - when I have the money to upgrade my system - I suppose. But the sooner it's out the gates, the faster it'll be accepted, the wider its reach will be.

Apparently it doesn't perform much better under Windows, so it's probably going to get performance patches. How much those will affect the Linux version remains to be seen.

and that Vulkan seems to not be too far away and that Vulkan seems to not be too far awayDoes this imply that Vulkan support on Unity isn't too far away? Which would be awesome since they've never elaborated on their Vulkan support, afaik.

I'm not often into shooters, but this looks fun. Although I'm also not one for multiplayer games..

The game is interesting enough, and indeed runs very well for something that isn't officially released. So far I've encountered a few things that aren't working as they should, but nothing too bad.
I do think, however, the pace of the game is a bit slow, even for the kind of game it is. Hopefully it picks up after a while?

Quoting: BeamboomThis is Unitys biggest problem: The amateurs who use their tools cause it's so accessible. The market gets flooded with poor products, and with the Unity logo fronting all of them, one quickly draw the conclusion that it gotta be the engine. At the same time it's also their strength, especially if great quality products are also made with it. Maybe they should, somehow, showcase those?

Not tried it yet - though it'd be nice to have a more up-to-date experience, with respect to their tutorials as well.

I think you're usually quite on top of things. And I find this update of Road Redemption quite fast as well.
One thing which I - initially - thought you were a bit slow on, was the Trine 3 release. But then I realised I'd much rather have you (or whoever writes up about a certain game) take enough time to give things an honest look.

I have 3 thoughts:
1. Performance is about where I'd expect it, NVidia SteamOS is quite decent, while not running the latest drivers.
2. I should get this game.
3. I should first get better hardware.

I'm always kinda surprised with how little Wine usage changes. I'd expect that with more and more games available natively, that number would go down. Maybe it just needs more time. Maybe it doesn't really matter to me though.

But hey, atleast fewer and fewer people see the need to use proprietary drivers on AMD GPU's!

Quoting: TheBossIt will be interesting to see how this changes when AMD's newer open source driver becomes the normal thing. If it helps stability and performance, then we could see a change here.I, personally, hope so, but this will take time. Even though Mesa 11.1 brings improvements, they're still far behind NVidia's blob performance. I don't expect AMD to catch up enough to make a change until Vulkan gains momentum.
