Sunday Section: What Was Your Biggest Linux Gaming Letdown So Far This Year?

+1 for AMD due to their Catalyst support. Seeing a post on GOL about some fancy new game on Linux, only to read in the article that AMD is not supported or performs poorly.. On the other hand:
-1 for AMD due to their RadeonSI support. At the moment I'm very happy about the open-source driver performance. Victor Vran, Trine 2, Witcher 2 are the games I play at the moment, all of which perform decently with Mesa 11.1. EU4 is meh, Bioshock Infinite a tad worse, so I'll hold off on those until I give Catalyst another go.

Quoting: maodzedunMine is yet another year of AMD disappointment. It seems Crossfire support will remain a dream (which renders my setup useless) and the single driver performance is still crap. It's very irritating considering they virtually closed the gap with Nvidia on Windows with the Omega update last year. It's one of these topics that automatically pisses me off :(((.Hmm, strongly mixed feelings here. On one hand:

Bought Victor Vran and the Witcher 2 on Steam. With Mesa 11.1 and Linux kernel 4.3 they perform quite well on my Radeon HD 7850, so I can steer clear from Catalyst for a while :). I'd advise anyone with an AMD card to try Mesa 11.1 with the 4.3 kernel.
*edit: unless you have an R9 285, because that one appears to be quite wonky with it..

I don't know if this camera view works for me, over-the-shoulder and controllable camera helps with immersion, I think.
Quoting: KimyrielleIt seems to be heavy on non-consensual open world PvP (which is a huuuuge dealbreaker for me)I'm also concerned about this. If they bring decent PvE content (preferably instanced) I will probably give it a go. Player-built cities could be nice, if we could make a corner of the world be GOL-town (but then maybe come up with a better name) that'd be awesome!

I suppose I'm gonna let this one pass - my radeon HD 7850 should be a bit more powerful than the 560 Ti you tested it with, but it's an AMD card. I think people with better gear will be happier with this anyway.
But awesome though! Now if only Feral could go back in time a bit and port Dirt 3 and DE: Human Revolution, cos they've been sitting in my library for a while, and I've stopped using wine.. Or Tomb Raider, then I could show them my love (in the form of money  )

GOL Game Jam Has Entered Rating Phase

I did originally think a rewrite of an existing game was against the rules, as I had intended to enter (which was unrealistic in the end) with a Unity version of Stratego until I read rule #5.
I hope to get my ratings (along with the occasional feedback) in tomorrow, and an entry in the next Jam.

Quoting: HadBabitsFor those interested in Unity and more narrative based games, I definitely recommend checking out Fungus [External Link]Will do. Thanks for the tip.

As an avid Battle for Wesnoth-player, this title did have me intrigued. The hit-or-miss aspect sounds like a dealbreaker to me though. In Wesnoth (try it! Everybody!), it's about right to me: annoying sometimes, but mostly it's there to add depth to the game.
I'm also not very keen on multiplayer, which, it appears, makes this game even less appealing to me.
Which is too bad, because I like the art, and I like this:

Haha, I've never tried the Import button, just went straight to the Open Store button.
Can't really help you much with recommendations, as I've only done the first tutorial on their website. But I do get the feeling that one covers quite a broad set of topics, and they mention further tutorials about certain aspects in the video's (I assume, but didn't check, that there's links to them below), so you can decide which to watch.
One more thing I can say is that, before you try the Tank Tutorial, the asset package requires editor version 5.2, while the Linux version isn't there yet. May be worth checking before you do any other tutorials.

There's A Possibility Of Just Cause 3 Coming To SteamOS/Linux

Square Enix doesn't have a lot of Linux support, they appear to have something to do with Wakfu, but are not listed on the Steam store page. I think Avalanche Studios has no Linux supported games yet. So I'm not getting my hopes up.

Strange - I don't need to login upon opening the store, because I've already logged in when opening the editor. Although the link provided in the webstore isn't recognised by Firefox or Chrome (they can't find the right protocol).
Am trying out their own Terrain assets package right now, it seems to work for me.
