The developer of Smith and Winston made an interesting blog post about supporting multiple platforms

Quoting: Beamboombut like I say how can a library-specific bug really help on other platforms, where other libraries are used for that same function where a particular issue is not present?
The library-specific bug could expose a problem in your algorithm that you've mostly been able to ignore up until now because the bug only occurs in 0.01% of cases with the other library, so you've never been able to replicate it.

Unity have changed their terms of service, which has essentially blocked SpatialOS and streaming services

Quoting: EikeWhen using streaming, shouldn't the client only need minimal software, comparable to what is in the Steam Link?
As far as I can see the terms cover using a Steam Link too: "over the Internet or other network"

Google's game streaming platform Project Stream is built on Linux and Vulkan

Quoting: GuestJust want to point out that Google already have an OS that uses Linux...
Actually they have two: Android and ChromeOS.

I would just like to add to the speculation in this comment thread the speculation from this slightly older thread and note that Assassin's Creed was one of the guesses on that. If Ubisoft have indeed ported their game to Linux it's possible they brought in some expert help?

  • Batman [a-zA-z]*: already have OSX port

Batman: Arkham Knight [External Link] is Windows only on Steam. Given that they pulled out of doing the port before it seems unlikely, unless they think they can make a better job of it now Vulkan/Metal is an option.

Quoting: ageresBioShock 1&2 Remastered?
Bioshock 1 Remastered has already been ported by Feral, the image shows both Mac and Linux ports for the new thing. It could be 2 I suppose, but why wouldn't they port the first one to Linux first?

An update on INSOMNIA: The Ark for Linux, still coming but no ETA

Do we want a Linux version, full of issues both in terms of bugs and major gameplay mechanics having problems?
Yes. Parity is what I want.

The Early Access MMO 'Project: Gorgon' now has a demo available

Quoting: nitroflowFrom what is said in the trailer this is a much less polished version of Shroud of the Avatar, so why bother with this now that SotA went F2P?
If you are at all interested in what was promised in the SotA Kickstarter, this game is a lot closer to that than Shroud turned out to be.

Quoting: BeamboomBut speaking of MMOs in the making, what's the status of that vampire mmo we read about a while ago? I can't recall the name...
Dogma: Eternal Night [External Link]? As far as I'm aware it hasn't seen an update since September 2017.

The RPG Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues has gone free to play

Quoting: KimyrielleHow ANY game think they can get away with subscriptions in 2018 is beyond me.
Basically the subscription option exists because the player base demanded it, however it is optional. It grew out of the telethons where you got special rewards for spending at least $5. People complained about missing out on the rewards because they bought too late or early so the time range for a purchase to count gradually got wider (even as the telethons themselves got shorter) until eventually you can just pre-pay for the telethon using this subscription.

Quoting: liamdaweIt wasn't a subscription, it was a single payment.
But there is also now a subscription [External Link].

Off Grid gives you data as your weapon in this stealth hacking game, now crowdfunding with Linux support

Quoting: fleskThe current "success rate" for me is 84%.
I found my old spreadsheet, it was from April 2017, my success rate at the time was 79%. Since then Everspace and Paradigm have released Linux versions, though a few more have released Windows versions but not Linux versions (e.g. Bard's Tale IV) so it's probably still around the same number.

Quoting: EikeWhen looking at the empty spaces at Linux ports, I'm thinking we need some "expiry" of the promise. Like if it's not delivered 6 months after the Windows release (and, maybe, there's no sign of very active working on it), it's considered not released for Linux.
I have two potential cut-offs to consider: Has the game appeared in a Steam sale (outside just the launch discount)? Has the game appeared in a bundle?

I remember Lords of Xulima took more than a year to get the Linux version out, saw it in at least two bundles for basically pennies between the Windows release and being able to play it natively.
