Quoting: lijuNow with M$ producing their ntfs, mssql, .net and so much more for our platform, its just so clear there is no other direction but to grow further and getting stronger.
Be wary of Microsoft's interest in Linux. Remember their "embrace and extend" strategy, which is really "search and destroy". They'd love nothing more than to shut the whole thing down.

Linux powers so much of our daily lives it's easy to forget: some of our phones, tablets, web servers, routers, TiVo boxes, some televisions and the list just goes on and on.
Linux is, in fact, the most used operating system in the world, including Hollywood where it's running some of the biggest render farms in the film industry (every top animation and special effects house uses Linux almost exclusively). No other OS even comes close to Linux in usage. Not many people realize this. It's just on the home desktop where Linux has struggled to make in-roads. A lot of this is because Microsoft and Apple spend hundreds of millions of dollars a year on advertising while Linux gets none. Kinda hard to compete when nobody knows you exist.

Looks like Subnautica from the Natural Selection 2 developers won't get Linux support

I think it's time every self-respecting Linux user stopped supporting crowd-funding schemes like Kickstarter and Early Access. It's way too easy for us to get screwed.

This never happened. They continue to actively develop SteamOS.

Ashes of the Singularity developers say Vulkan for their game is pretty far along, Linux after

Quoting: wolfyrionWell I am afraid that is not good news :(

Everyone was so hype for Vulkan and everyone expected miracles like to be easy to create or port games and so on but unfortunately so far not many companies manage to create or port a game with Vulkan API.

Only DOOM(not on Linux) and Talos Principle which is not working well , at my pc is just crashing... We didnt even see any new indie game with Vulkan API.

I really dont know what to expect with Vulkan API it has been so many months and no progress. :S:
Rome wasn't built in a day, you seriously expected developers to drop everything they are doing and flock to a brand new and largely untested API?

This sort of stuff will take a long time.
Yep. We always knew this was a long term venture. Linux gaming has come a LONG ways in a relatively short amount of time, but we shouldn't expect such rapid progress to be the rule. There are going to be peaks and valleys, but things are still moving in a positive direction. I think a developer even considering a Linux port is a victory when you consider the state of things just a few short years ago when Linux wasn't even on the radar for a vast majority of studios, and I think as developers continue to evaluate Linux, and as support and technology improves, we will begin to see more and more of them say "Yes".

Not a big fan of JRPGs (as Bioware once said, "Just because you put a 'J' in front if it doesn't make it an RPG." ), but more love for Linux is always a good thing.

A reason for poor performance on AMD plus Mesa has been found and a patch is in progress

Quoting: babaiI Agree that customers should expect proper performance right now and not wait for another year, also this fix will probably go into the radeonSI userspace driver and not MESA.
Still, AMD has contributed much code to MESA in the past years, show me some from NVIDIA (no please not any Tegra DRM code)?
If you are using Linux for freedom/open source idealism, ideologically you SHOULD buy AMD products and not tell me how a 1060 overpowers an RX480 today. AMD had no obligations towards supporting MESA or opening up millions of lines of DPM code for their chips. They still did.
Support a company that supports your platform.
If you don't follow the open source philosophy and using Linux just because you like say the millions of widget themes it supports or for any other reason, buy Nvidia.
I go with what works. Linux works for me. Windows doesn't. Nvidia works for me. AMD doesn't. It's as simple as that.

Frozen State survival game survives Early Access, full version available, falls flat on its face

Out of 350 reviews 80% are positive, I feel like they must be playing a terribly different game to me.
This is the reason I avoid Early Access games, the review are often way too much optimistic.
Agreed. Many early access reviews tend to be defensive in nature rather than objective and informative.

Cities: Skylines - Natural Disasters expansion announced, mother nature is pissed
18 Aug 2016 at 6:22 pm UTC Likes: 2

Could be interesting, but I suspect most people will use it like they used natural disasters in the SimCity games: save the game, unleash natural disasters and reduce your city to a smoldering ruin, then reload your game and continue playing as normal. As hard as it is to keep a city running in Skylines, I can't see how it would be much fun to have your metropolis randomly destroyed by a meteor or tornado.

Speaking of Cities: Skylines, I wonder when they're going to get the Linux performance issues sorted out?

I thought it was already confirmed that Civ 6 is coming to Linux.
