It always frustrates me when people make money with stupid stuff like this because I wish I had thought of it.

It's a fun game, but always playing the same map gets boring. First time I played Dota 2, I was actually shocked when I discovered that it only had one map.

Looks pretty cool.
On a different note, I really hate these game trailers that make you wait almost a minute into the video before showing you any actual gameplay.

Like Gabe Newall once said when asked if Steam would ever suddenly become a subscription service after gaining a large customer base: "Sure, we could screw over our customers. We could also cover ourselves with gasoline and light ourselves on fire. Neither one sounds like a good idea."

Quoting: throghSimply as that: SteamOS is NOT GNU/Linux and that is made clear by this. Who in fact can prevent Valve from changing this derivate so it is more incompatible with the general Linux-stack? Exactly: Nobody. Just using the kernel and some firmware and what about the rest? Just more proprietary software and addons doesn't bring Open-Source more clear in the foreground, but I like those discussions here ... when some people are crying out because they don't get the game to make Linux more shiny one day and in fact it is nothing more than a copy of Windows on their local system. :DThere's no reason whatsoever to think Valve will someday make SteamOS incompatible with Linux. That's just Microsoft-style FUD, and Valve knows better than to piss off millions of loyal customers as well as hundreds of developers who have already taken the risk of supporting Linux/SteamOS in the first place.
It will be relativized repeatedly, I know. But using proprietary software with DRM is just an option and possibility, nothing more. It doesn't help Linux in any way.

Quoting: wintermuteIf the developer hasn't actually posted a Linux version then all they see is a Windows sale even if Steam might track it internally as a Linux sale.Quoting: TuxeeSince there is only a Windows version it will be counted as Windows sale, regardless of being installed or played. That's not what the developer of the Stanley Parable said [External Link]. Buy it on Linux, don't play it for a week, Steam counts it as a Linux sale. Whether the publisher cares about Steam's stats is another matter.

That said, I do agree that Valve could be doing more to promote SteamOS/Linux, and I think there are several strategies they could employ such as basic advertising and partnering with developers to get SteamOS ports made, but there's no reason to be pessimistic. Things are still moving in a positive direction.

Quoting: EikeThe fact that they're doing "basic maintenance" is a good thing. If they let Steam for Linux get several versions behind Windows and OSX, and if we stopped seeing regular Linux releases in the Steam catalog, then I would see a reason to worry (and start looking for a cheap copy of Windows, as much as it would gall me).Quoting: Mountain ManAs far as I know, Valve is still actively supporting Steam for Linux and SteamOS, so why the doom and gloom? This was always a long-term project for them.I'm honestly asking: Anythng they've (visibly) done, say, this year?
Besides doing basic maintenance on Steam for Linux?
