I cant imagine myself working with a non rolling release distro. Once you experienced it you will never go back to ubuntu like distros...
I used to be a massive fan of Gentoo. Even ran GentooX on the original Xbox back in the day. These days I just run Debian and have started to use GuixSD, although I am thinking of toying with Parabola also since I backed the EOMA68.

Gentoo is fun, but needing hours to update KDE is a bit of a pain. Once I tried Kubuntu and realized how painless updates were, I never looked back.

The irony, of course, is that if SteamOS goes away then, in all likelihood, so does Linux, at least as far as Valve's grand experiment in gaming is concerned.

I love the idea of SteamOS, but there's really no reason to use it on the desktop.

Their help pages mentioned some recovery option that would reset SteamOS, but that doesn't seem to exist if you do the advanced install method (as I had multiple drives with other things on).

Isn't the advanced install method essentially unsupported?

I think a lot of people didn't understand Conclave. They were used to ruling without resistance whereas Conclave introduced some realistic politics into the equation.
