Monster Hunter Wilds releases February 28, 2025

Quoting: ZlopezI tried the Monster Hunter World and after first hour it started to feel like just a grind. The start was awesome cinematic epic story introduction, but after that you will get so many confusing things to do and for everything you need to grind your way to it.

If you hope for some epic story like God of War you will not find it here, even the battles with the monsters weren't that interesting. Most of the time it feels like Live service game, but without trying to get more money from you (I can see how this could be easily added to the game).
That's how Monster Hunter games have always been. The gameplay loop is just grindy boss fights. Ordinarily I hate grind and boss fights, but I enjoy Monster Hunter. Go figure.

LEGO games are essentially just asset flips, and yet I find them immensely enjoyable.

My plan is to start using Wayland when X11 is no longer available for my distro. I see no hurry to switch.

GTA V / GTAOnline highlights Steam Deck's verification system has problems

Therein lies the problem. Steam Deck Verified is all Valve, it’s nothing to do with the original developers of the games that are being checked.
That's the current state of Linux gaming in a nutshell: it's all on Valve. Other developers haven't jumped on the Linux bandwagon like I had hoped they would after Valve proved it's a viable market.

Quoting: pbWhich one do you think it is?
1. Corporate cost-cutting
2. Preparing for a future antitrust (look, we're so open!)
3. Actually caring about open standards
Laying the groundwork for a future version of Windows that will be based on Linux?

Valve make even more changes for Steam store pages

The inclusion of LinkedIn is not confusing at all. Many business have active LinkedIn accounts. Granted, it's more a site for making professional connections and may not be of interest to consumers, but it makes sense that Valve would include it.

European Consumer Organization goes after multiple publishers for their in-game currency

Microtransactions and in-game currency basically prey on the same psychology that gets people addicted to gambling by disguising how much money is actually being lost. And just like gambling, you have "whales" who will spend tens of thousands of dollars without it really registering just how much money they're throwing away.

Steam Families has officially launched with a big Steam Client Update

Quoting: Mountain ManThe short version is that Valve has finally closed an unintended loophole in the Family Sharing feature.
It is closing it, but all I'm saying is that it was very much intended, not unintended.

Steam was ~10 years old when Family Sharing was introduced (and PC gaming in general hadn't been more than a niche until another 10 years before that) and lots of gamers had siblings and friends to share games with, nephews at best, so that's exactly who Valve targeted with that feature.

Now Steam is ~20 years old, their playerbase demographic grew older and has little kids now, so they changed it. Good for them, but 100% intentional.

Seriously, picture 2013 in your mind. Remember, smartphones almost new, burgers cheap, Game of Thrones still in 3rd Season. How many people did you know that were both Steam Gamers and parents? I knew none. Compare that with how many you know now
I don't know how old you are, but parents with kids have been playing video games for decades.
