Ballistic Overkill adds Linux support, a pretty good looking online class-based FPS

That's good to hear it is slow paced! I've tried Quake and Doom style games but I just can't get into them because I grew up on Halo and CoD (Ew, I know...). I think my brain is just "wired" for that pacing at this point.

An interview with Eagre Games about their new game, ZED

And in the last 25 years technology has changed so dramatically that it's allowing us to create ZED.
A really cool thing about ZED is that it visually looks like the old prerendered scenes of 90s PC games. We have easily surpassed what could only be prerendered just years ago.

They have done an excellent job of maintaining the same atmosphere we all knew in Banjo Kazooie.

It seems that after testing the waters with the mobile Hitman port, they liked what they saw.

Minecraft 1.10 released, adds Polar Bears and more

Quoting: slaapliedjeHow is Minetest progressing? That looks epic! Last time I tried out Minetest, it was very basic, but so much faster than Minecraft (C vs Java if I recall). I may have to try it out again. Maybe we can get a GoL server for it?
Minetest just recently reached 0.4.14 which is still missing critical features such as mobs and hunger. And they still have yet to reach some major milestones for rewritten networking and such. But so long as you throw in a couple of mods, Minetest is very much enjoyable.

Quoting: FUltraI think that the version equality will be there for a long time since it's the same version due to Minecraft being a Java application. Of course they could always try and force the XBOX version as the only version (guessing here that that version is not written in Java) but there is nothing that indicates that this is on the road map.
When Microsoft begins to infect something, it's never just a flip of the switch and BAM it's gone. In reality, support for non-Windows versions will gradually decay. Releases might start arriving later for Mac and Linux. Or a feature gets added which mysteriously only performs well under Windows/Xbox.

Just look at what happened to Skype. Sure, it is still technically usable on Linux but the experience is already in an advanced stage of decay.

Minecraft 1.10 released, adds Polar Bears and more

Quoting: PlintslchoThere're people way older than you are that still greatly enjoy Minecraft, believe me. ;-)
Ironically, the only people who are adamant that Minecraft is for kids are those who were recently children/young teens. That said, I am pleased to see Minecraft still works well on Linux even though it is owned by Microsoft. I can only wonder how much longer this version equality will last and so I've been cozying up real close to Minetest lately.

XCavalypse, clean up a zombie apocalypse with an excavator now on Linux
7 Jun 2016 at 5:28 pm UTC

Quoting: tuubiAww, I thought it would be about actually cleaning up the city afterwards, maybe learning about the event in the process like the topic led me to believe/hope, not repetitive zombie-slaughter with heavy machinery. This could have been an interesting and innovative mix of exploration and excavator simulation. Of course I wouldn't have minded if there was some aftermath-related action involved, like a bit of running from zombie stragglers, but this is just... meh.
Same. I thought it was going to be in the same vein as Viscera Cleanup Detail [External Link] where the player is tasked with cleaning the aftermath of other game genre's battles.

Quoting: KimyrielleI am still waiting for my Linux MMO, though. :D
Have you tried Ryzom? It's quite alright, in my opinion. At least to scratch that mmorpg itch.

I had to drop that game because they describe their subscription system so vaguely and ambiguously that I didn't want to sink any time into a game that I might later find needs a subscription to do <X critical feature>... but if you subscribe you can never return to being free to play on that account. I just can't bring myself to care about a game that seems so hell-bent on deceiving me.

Rocket League for Linux & SteamOS getting close to a release window finally

They treat me as a 3rd class customer so I have no choice but to treat Psyonix as a 3rd class publisher: 90% discount or no-buy.

My friends have already moved on to TW: Warhammer which will probably be a repeat of releasing to Linux just as they lose interest in the title and move on to something else.
