Quoting: tmtvlTo say the 1% is inaccurate is being kind, I'd say it's complete garbage & will stay that way till Valve do a full count of every single user on Steam.
Valve has a full count of every single Steam user for sure. They just aren't going to make it public.

Quoting: shigutsoIt seems that the marketing of Steam Machines has been pretty much non-existing on general media. If I were Valve, I would overhaul the entire Steam Store front page with videos and pictures about the Steam Machines during this launch week, so people understand what it is, what's its purpose and where people can buy it. It's not going to sell if nobody knows its existence.
On the other hand, you do not want to annoy users by throwing it in their face. Steam is already erring on the obnoxious side with ads that load at launch. Steam Machine adoption needs to be organic.

Once the count passes 2000 I will consider the quantity to be sufficient (notice I haven't said quality). Until then, each multiple of 100 is a milestone to be celebrated for a platform that didn't even have a place on the Steam library only 3 years ago.

Quoting: Segata SanshiroEDIT:

also, @supashang, I agree with the sentiment that there's a lot of good indie games out there. When I first got back into PC gaming (now as a Linux user) I had a great time with them, partly because of the novelty of being able to play stuff natively on Linux. But there's only so many pixely games one can play before it all starts to feel the same and it becomes incredibly hard to separate the wheat from the chaff (and there's a loooooooot of chaff, which some might say is making the whole indie scene into a sinking ship).

Sure, I still play quite a few lower-budget games. Last one I played was This War of Mine and it was excellent. But still, there's nothing I'd like more than to be able to play Fallout 4 next week. I assume most people feel the same
I know myself that I shy away from pixelated 2D games and I'm sure I'm not the only one. We didn't build/buy these strong computers just to play games that even a GameBoy could run. So many indie devs say they targeted an "oldschool retro look" when in reality they just went with that because it is easier to build. Steam Machines may struggle if these types of games oversaturate the Linux library any more than they already do. That AAA to indie ratio needs to be brought into balance ASAP.

Sunday Section: What Was Your Biggest Linux Gaming Letdown So Far This Year?

Not a game from this year but this is the first year I've tried on Linux: Dungeon Defenders. The mouse sensitivity is broken so you are forced to either in play bird's eye view or with a gamepad.

The Park, A Really Creepy Looking Game Looks Set For A Linux Version

It's another game from Funcom, so it looks like they are swaying towards more Linux support for their games.
Aren't the also the ones behind Lego Minifigures Online? It may not seem like much but let's appreciate the fact that there is now a LEGO game on Linux! And if they're beginning to warm up to Linux I would absolutely love to find an announcement for porting their title Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. The new one is already compatible..
