The Steam Deck hit me over the head with feelings of nostalgia

I don't really need such device and I've been stubbornly refuse to give in to FOMO and get one, but lately I feel that I may lose and just do it.
I expected and hoped to see the Deck well received, but the public response was out of this world, is like is magic. Is maybe the most buggy device released in the recent years, and yet, people are out of their minds about it.
I must get one and find out what's going on.

I thought it was so cool to play with other real people, not npc/whatever.
That until I enabled the chat and read it. I never played it again.
In game chat stopped you playing a game ? I mean you enabled it, so presumably you could disable it and you thought it was cool prior to enabling the chat also.
Do I really need to elaborate?
Of course it's your choice, but missing out on an entire gaming experience because of [going to assume it's an 'ism thing] when you have the option to just not enable the text seems like your the one who is suffering. How many games are you going to read stuff you don't like in ? Eventually if it's online almost all of them which means no or minimal online gaming for you i guess.
Don't get me wrong i respect that you stuck to your values [a rare quality]. A long while ago i decided to refund a game in a similar manner although for me the game had forced ON voice chat and pretty much minimum 32 - 64 players screaming at each other every round.. but if it was just a text box i could disable then i would not of done it. Most games you can't even disable the text chat so with war thunder you have even more options than 90% of other online games.

Each to their own.
To keep it short:
Before reading the chat I thought we were all having fun.
After reading the chat I realized that everybody was hating everyone else, including the members of their own team.
I tried to continue with the chat disabled, but the fun wasn't there anymore.

Quoting: henriquecariocaStadia is linux + Vulkan , Stadia helps Steam deck and vice versa ( and steam for linux )
that simple ,
Give a single example where Stadia have helped the Steam Deck. Stadia is not Linux + Vulkan, it's some in-house proprietary Google API + DXVK that just happens to run atop Debian.
Stadia does not currently use DXVK. I think you have it confused with the new "windows emulator" project they are working on.
They do use DXVK. While currently Stadia is using a custom Linux+Vulkan platform with its desktop components stripped out, some of the ports (notably Metro ones) are using DXVK.

Google talk about their 'Windows emulator' for Stadia and they use DXVK already

Disappointed.

Stadia had two main things going for me:
- One was the prospect of building games specifically taking advantage of the cloud technology, which went away with SGE dissolution, and second:
- Pushing Linux game development, and this seems to be going away now.

I suppose this mirrors in a way Valve's efforts in trying to initially promote native Linux gaming, and when that didn't worked so well, resorting to Windows games running through Proton.
When it comes to gaming, is still pretty much a Windows world and they just had to adapt. Still, I just hope that these efforts will amount to something in the long run.

Steam Deck changelogs now available, new update out now

Got it to work, as in actual installation on my drive:

Gotta say that is great for the deck, right, but if you look for this to install on your PC (at least for now and this specific image) is not much to write home about. You can get the same experience or better with the usual distros.

It really is tailored for the deck, and that's it. I'm really curious how the actual (future) desktop release of SteamOS 3 will be.

You can install it, but you need to edit the /home/deck/tools/repair_device.sh according to your "sacrificial" drive. Don't just run the scripts on your main PC, it may just delete the data if you're not careful.
And do fbcon=rotate:0 in grub to avoid the console rotation.
