Quoting: legluondunetWorks very well here in directx10 mode with DXVK. Are you using the last Proton beta? Are you using the correct Nvidia drivers? (or MESA if you own an AMD GPU, see requirements here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Requirements [External Link])
First thing to do: uninstall and reinstall the game.
Latest proton beta & latest stable nvidia drivers (415.22). The dx10 executable launches, plays the intro video, then the screen goes blank on the intro menu screen (sounds still playing). All I can do is to kill -9 it.

Fishy stuff with the Epic games launcher, apparently. Not terribly shocking, I suppose...

Quoting: HamishIs there any reason why it needs a limit removing source port like GZDOOM or can it still be run with something more chocolate?
It may just be that he likes gzdoom; he mentions it somewhere in this video series:

'Devs Play', by Double Fine -- John Romero plays through Ep. 1 of the original Doom, on gzdoom, with commentary:

Quoting: MalOk cool but... what the hell is a "used digital game"?!? A digital game with some scratches on the pixels of the loading screen or the colors of the main character weared down? :D
With bitrot, maybe?

... so future mint collectors of used digital games will all be ardent ZFS users.

I gave in to my curiosity, and downloaded the whole thing ... but AssCreed 1 still doesn't work. I wonder how the folks on youtube got it to work.

That's interesting. I'm really curious about the DRM policy, though. The publishers mentioned in that tweet are all (I think) GOG-friendly publishers. But could they go the exact opposite route this time, implementing some sort of BLOCKCHAIN (yeah they like that term a lot) DRM to keep track of who's buying & selling & keeping what???

Heard anything about Linux support?
I just took a peek, and it really looks like everything depends on developer/publisher support*; and needless to say it can only work on drm-free titles**. There's no clue as to cross-platform buying or selling. There's no clue as to whether they have any publishers on board either.

(* That's true for any kind of store, obviously; what I mean is that it depends whether the publishers will be on board with the 'percentages from used sales' model that they're proposing.)

(** That's not true; I should have said: It can only work with titles that do not implement existing types of drm, like steam, uplay, etc.)

I think you need to edit the link to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuES02HzDDs [External Link]

... so DXVK finally works on AC1? Out of the box? There are no updates on protondb just yet.
I also wonder if there's any improvement on the uplay drm'ed titles (AC1 has no uplay/drm).

Quoting: Guesttouching love for the Apple ][. i ignore nearly everything about this machine. (One day, i will get a true working Amiga...)
I think you're using 'ignore' as a transliteration of the French j'ignore, which simply means 'I lack knowledge ...'; in the colloquial English sense, though, it doesn't really deserve to be 'ignored' (treated as a non-entity)! I was a Commodore kid growing up (though I did get to use Apple ][s at school), but the more I learn about the machine -- especially its extensible/hackable/*completely* user-serviceable design [yeah, the exact opposite of today's Apple], and the community that grew around it -- the more impressed I become. Apple ][ (//e, etc.) series did cost a lot more than Commodore's 8 bit machines, but they had great 80-col. support, & professional software; whereas Commodore went for volume of sales, and not much else (insisting on selling machines at Toys'R'US, alienating computer resellers, and becoming invisible in the 'serious' market as a result).
