Wine manager Bottles has a big new release with major overhauls
30 Jan 2022 at 10:25 am UTC

Tried to use this but it seems way too buggy. Couldn't get vcruntimes installed even tho it went through the processes (games still couldn't see it), the command-line terminal and debug modes don't work (they just insta close).

Nice idea; too buggy for my liking, back to lutris!

SDL 2.0.22 will default to Wayland on Linux

Defaulting to X11 until they get full display control and management integrated in Wayland... it still not possible to execute display adjustments or ICC controls correctly like how xgamma or xrandr allowed (often made available in WM settings or GUI tools).

Wayland still has loads of little problems that all add up.. X11 does too but actually has solutions to them for the most case!

The 2012 strategy game Oil Rush from Unigine is now free

Its good that Unigine are still trying to make good games; its really needed to show off what their engine is capable of and also keep some competition going otherwise UE will simply take over (almost has).

Godot Engine 4.0 Alpha 1 is out with Vulkan support, rendering overhaul

Be interesting to see how well ray tracing appears in this. Atm UE5 has the spotlight thanks to Lumen and Nanite features, but their not perfect, not yet. Certainly enough time for rest of industry to catch up or come up with better/alternative solutions.

Nice, I was thinking about this the other day. Also be nice if UbiSoft games could show up in this launcher.

Game devs don't seem convinced on the Steam Deck from the GDC 2022 survey

Linux is what's not selling to dev's not the Steam Deck itself. There is a general resistance and hostility towards releasing or supporting games on Linux, uphill battle!

Microsoft to acquire Activision Blizzard

Well if you don't SPEND your billions you will eventually need to pay it to the tax man so of cause this makes sense.

However I do wonder about the developer morals behind MS. I think they did good with the recent HALO release IMO, but we have yet to see what we'll get out of the Bethesda acquisition.
