So the use case is that since obs may be used even while they are playing steam games, then it makes sense to take the burden to package and release it as a steam application, because people will prefer to start it from their library.
This honestly I haven't thought to.
Well then, but this still does not help my progress in understanding the motivations, because i don't think they are installing a browser as a steam specific app or any other app one may think of one can use while they are playing.
Ofc I may be wrong, but I really don't believe the number of users starting obs from steam justifies the release in their store.
Probably is just a matter of having more visibility or I just don't know.
Take Display Fusion for windows as example. It's a standalone app that can run without steam turned on after it's installed through steam. Steam does not enforce drm. If I could I would rather have all the apps (or even free) I bought under one umbrella to install/remove instead of remembering going to 10 places to install apps. While steam is primarily for gaming, seeing it as an appstore works perfectly fine.

I like feral, but last time I bought a game they ported with multiplayer, Company of Heroes 2, they changed the libraries so crossplay with Windows wasn't possible. I rather have proton so I can play with my friends rather then a port from them where I can't. Just saying.

Well this isn't surprising. I expected the same kind of response that we initially got from the HTC Vive release. It's a little more expensive, but not a lot - Also everything seems improved. The pricing is a lot better then the stupid HTC Vive Pro. I'm still mad on HTC for making the price so high on that one, it never made sense, especially not after the initial release of the HTC Vive and it's pricing.

I'm a bit worried about that they went with LCD over OLED, but maybe that makes sense - we will see. Also not sure about the "off ear" headphones. I'm a bit worried that the audio will be mushy if you are in a room with friends with loud speakers.

Anyways, I'm excited! Now if I could get hold of a unit...

Actually they would. This is not news, they already said they would do this quite some time ago.

Well I guess they could have prior knowledge to Google Stadia from back then as well, but I still think it would be unlikely that this move is because of that.

S2 Games fucked up a lot of times and that's why it went downhill and never recovered.

Dave Airlie mentioned that for example radeonsi is missing extensions that would would make it fast.
I suppose that's a valid point, but I mean if we talk about using Nvidias proprietary drivers, wouldn't that be fast enough?

I've never really understood the Vulkan only deal with SteamVR on Linux. Why now allow OpenGL and let the developers decide whatever works?

I already know why, same reason as with the others. But seriously this is really frustrating. I'm sad that this will be another port I will not support.

I love Feral, but if this turns out to be another game without crossplatform multiplayer support then no thanks.

Still that's kinda a bummer. While I love Vulkan, OpenGL works with VR on Windows...someone that wants to port that over to Linux shouldn't need to convert it to Vulkan in my opinion. What is it that makes VR only work with Vulkan on Linux?
