Gyroscope tool JoyShockMapper comes to Linux, Valve adds 'Flick stick' to Steam Input

- The camera / raw direction is done with the track pad
- The fine aiming is done with gyro
- gyro only activates when the thumb is on the trackpad
So your problem with the turning back would not be a real problem because you look in the direction you want with the trackpad and not with the gyro. You need a rather high sensitivitiy / acceleration on the trackpad for that, though. If you need to center your gamepad, you just center it without touching the trackpad. It think that's not needed very often if I recall correctly.

Quoting: MacabreHeartNice stuff, I've always liked the idea of doing the camera via the gyro but always got stuck because steam input's mapping was doing mouse like camera rather than thumstick/steering wheel like. This meant that any right turn turned your camera right which doesn't work when you've just turned left but need to return the controller to it's basic position cause that just turns you back to your old forward direction. The flick stick idea would fix this but a steering wheel mode would also be great. My setting (it was someone else's I modified slightly) works as follows:
- The camera / raw direction is done with the track pad
- The fine aiming is done with gyro
- gyro only activates when the thumb is on the trackpad

I started playing CS with a Steam Controller more or less as a joke / fun project. As some of my friends are not good at the game, I figured, I could make a second account and play with controller only. After some practice, it's not bad. While, obviously, I perform a lot better with KB and mouse, I am able to play decently with the Steam Controller. Rank wise, my rank with KB and mouse is somewhere about AK2 / Double AK. With the SC my rank is about Gold 2/3.
So this is not only a gimmick that enables console players to get a bit better, but still get stomped by KB and mouse players. It enables console players to play at a similar level as PC players with enough practice!

I also liked the game. Hoping, the rework will be as good as the original, gameplay wise.

Quoting: CorbenFunny, what a coincidence, just today Into The Breach came into my mind, if the native port will still come as the devs promised, when they said Proton would not be the kind of quality they want to deliver :woot:Haha, me too! :O
Maybe I should coincidently think more often of promised native ports... a well I've used this magic now up for quite a while ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Half-Life: Alyx support for Linux aiming to arrive with Vulkan support post-release

I think it has to do with the VR state. Probably VR on Linux (Vulkan?) is not as stable as on other platforms and/or lacks features. Keep in mind that all other (non-VR) games of Valve were first day Linux releases (Artifact and Underlods). Both games always are/were on par with the Windows version. Even the Early Access version of Underlords was right there with Windows all the time. A lot of Linux-friendly developers have a bit of delay in their Linux version before the actual release.

Quoting: fabertaweI don't have VR or plan to get it any time soon, due to cost, but would like to try it at some point. The thing that's bugging me in these videos is the movement. "Leaping" from place to place ruins the immersion, or so I would have thought. Is it not possible to move "normally"?There will be several Options for moving, including one to move "normally". (I think it's shown in the 2nd video from Valve if I remember correctly).

Some games only work on a Playstation, some only on an XBOX, some only on a Switch and some only on Windows. Why are people not as hostile against Breath of the Wild but instead consider buying a Switch just for that game?

I'd rather have a game for a niche audience that pushes boundaries, so the games we will get in the future will be more awesome. I have no VR set myself, but I am hyped for HL Alyx. Gaming made huge steps in the 90s till the mid 2000s but after that the games were more or less the same. We need another huge step.
P.S. I did not play HL2 when it released as you also needed a very pricey Hardware back then. I also did not play Quake 1 when it released as you also needed very pricey Hardware. But guess what, I played those games a few years later when I had the hardware for it. By building cars you exclude all those people who already have good horses and need to buy a overpriced gimmicky car.
Come on dude, there are thousands of other games to play for you. I the meanwhile let Valve push the boundaries with that one title ;)

Others studios would be fine making something like Black Mesa and selling it as an HD remake. Don't tell me you would prefer an "official" Black Mesa (=remake) over a totally new Half Life experience. I'd rather see 10 failed games that a least try something new then the 100th remake or reboot. I hope you are not one of those people who complains about Call of Duty being the same game over and over again.
