MONSTER HUNTER RISE adds new DRM that breaks it on Steam Deck (UPDATED)

Capcom should have gone after the streamer instead of punishing paid consumers. Just shows how old fashioned and out of touch most Japanese businesses are.

Feral GameMode v1.8 out now with CPU core pinning and parking

Quoting: sonic2kkShould be noted that this not only comes pre-installed on SteamOS but that it powers a lot of the Steam Deck's Game Mode performance behind-the-scenes!
So adding gamemoderun isn’t necessary in the launch options for a game? Or should we still add it?

Xorg is dead, long live Wayland - Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) dropping Xorg

Quoting: RenardDesMersI was shopping for a new monitor for black Friday and was debating with myself about how useful would HDR and Freesync features be since Wayland can't support those yet and I don't really know when they'll get decent support.
Hopefully the wayland folks remember about the gamers when prioritizing the missing features.
KDE Plasma 5.27 has support for Adaptive Sync in the Display options. KDE 6 should also bring in HDR support.

GE-Proton 8-24 fixes Yakuza 5 Remastered cut-scenes and pulls in D8VK

Hopefully D8VK can get some serious testing and gets merged upstream.

Steam Deck Beta gets some essential bug fixes and new Gyro options
22 Oct 2023 at 12:43 pm UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: PyreticWhile I like the Gyro options, I wonder why they're working on it so much. I suppose they're trying to encourage developers to take a swing at it using Steam Input.
With the recent interest in gyro and improving the SteamVR experience, maybe we get that dedicated VR headset soon? 🤔

Harebrained Schemes and Paradox Interactive to split

Quoting: GuestI saw a couple of youtube videos about the game when it came out.
It looked interesting.
Went to buy it and found out it was Windows only.
Moved on and didn't look back.
So you won't play any non native games even if Proton works well? Sometimes the Windows versions running in Proton are better than native as the native ports tend to be abandoned and locked to old libraries.

Mesa 23.2.1 drivers out now

I'm looking forward to enabling ray tracing by default without having to add these flags on AMD:

RADV_PERFTEST=rt VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_2

GE-Proton 8-11 is out now for Linux desktop and Steam Deck
5 Aug 2023 at 3:53 pm UTC

Quoting: staywithmeWarning, installing this version brought with it some strange bug that prevents Steam from closing properly for me. Removing it as the preferred runtime in favor of Proton Experimental solved the issue.
I used to use GE more, but I’ve found Experimental has worked fine for me recently. I don’t know how much QA he does, but sometimes his releases are followed with another that says “oops forgot something”

That’s why I don’t use Nobara. Plus it’s based on Fedora which is part of icky IBM/Red Hat.

Canonical planning an immutable desktop version of Ubuntu

As long as you can use your HOME directory without issue and can install local apps and Bash configs, I wouldn't mind an immutable distro protecting the directories that are not /home

Fedora Onyx voted in as a new official Fedora Linux immutable variant

That’s an interesting take as Firefox in Flatpak or Snap is supposed to add another layer of sandboxing security.
