I got mine with a Steam Machine bought at a regular PC shop in Germany (computeruniverse to be precise).
I love it.
I have had only two issues with it. First, joystick rotation puzzles using the touchpad are a pain: Life is Strange photo focus, Batman Arkham Asylum hacking. Second, it's slightly too easy to press the hardware joystick button - it's especially annoying in the Witcher 2, as I keep triggering Witcher sense mid-combat, which usually leads to stagger and often to death. I have never had this issue with an Xbox controller.
I haven't really tried it in fps games yet, apart from some System Shock trainings. It works great in 3rd person, strategy and arcade games. Torchlight and Transistor/Bastion were fine too. Platformers - not so much, the D-pad/touchpad is less precise than a proper dedicated D-pad, but it is possible I simply suck :)

But I've managed to change the way I see Windows-only games: as exclusives. I'd love to play Doom, just as I'd love to play Uncharted, but neither is on my platform of choice.

Quoting: MintedGamerThe best thing we can do is vote with our wallets, only buy games with Linux support, and do without the EA and Ubisoft windows only franchises that are mostly stale and uninnovative anyway. You're right... But the Witcher 3 :(

Quoting: MaCroX95Did you try to set them through Wine? Majority of LEGO titles work very well with WINE but I hate that I cannot manage to get my controller working on playonlinux which drives me mad since I'd really love to play lego titles from the couch through controller.Nah, I'm done with Wine. I'm not a purist, I have a Windows installation dual booting via BIOS and a backlog of Windows games. I like Linux/SteamOS because of excellent gaming experience - and unfortunately Wine is not excellent gaming experience, even if everything works fine. It's just easier to boot into Windows.

A few months ago I looked at my gaming backlog, I looked at good games available for Linux/SteamOS and came up with a genius plan to solve my backlog issue: don't buy any new Windows only games, complete what I have in the library and then become Linux only.
How naive I was. There are so many great games for Linux, my wishlist has 57 games for SteamOS and the backlog is growing again.
Disclaimer: yes, old Assassin's Creed games on my wishlist are Windows only, as are Train Simulator add-ons. And yes, I bought Lego Batman and Lego LotR for my kids recently (Feral, pleeeease, port Lego games to Linux, please?).

It would be interesting to see some sales figures from Feral - they ramp up their pipeline, so it must be profitable, but how profitable?

Quoting: burnallThis will be the closest thing to Starcraft on Linux then, I guess. It's probably closer to XCOM than Starcraft - the main difference being that you can get resupplies during the mission. The first edition of Dawn of War was more Starcraft-like, with base building and harvesting resources.

Review: Linux gave me one of my best gaming experiences yet with Life is Strange

Gone Home hit me full on with the nostalgia hammer. Music, rooms, discussions about the Matrix... And yet I'm much more moved by Life is Strange. The end of Episode 3 left me trembling inside. I'm in the middle of Episode 4 and I'm full of dread.
Great, great game.

Quoting: rkfgAnother one here, I'm 42 - coincidentally born in the same year as Kaitlin from Gone Home.Quoting: GuestI'm a 44 year old man and this is one of my all time favorite games. That is all.My faith in humanity has been restored. It's heartwarming to know that even older people from the previous generation enjoy such emotional games. I always thought that parents value way other things than their children so it's hard for them to explain to each other why some movie or a game hits them so hard. Glad that's not always the case.
