Quoting: ArehandoroGood on him, happy he made it :)

Although he says in partnership with codeweavers instead of Valve... interesting.
Yeah, and presumably if he is working with Codeweavers and not Valve then technically he will be working on Wine and not Proton(or Steamplay). Just a technicality, since the changes he makes to Wine will end up in Proton.

Quoting: cprnI'll believe they've "changed" when they make all their new DirectX releases just thin open source wrappers around Vulkan and only support GPUs with open drivers. Now that would raise a lot of eyebrows. Mostly in Nvidia corner.
But just open sourcing their current(and future) DX versions wouldn't be enough? Even if they ported it to Linux? It has to be on top of Vulkan?
What would access to DirectX source give us? We'd be able to make DirectX better by finding bugs and submitting fixes. That's it. DirectX can't be ported to Linux per se, it's a bunch of Windows core calls. Its API can be re-implemented on Linux, that's what wine does and yeah, maybe wine folks would benefit but nobody else, really. On the other hand the overhead that GPU drivers have just to support all possible APIs is huge. Vulkan solves this and it is a standard. IMHO we don't need Microsoft opening their code, we need them to comply with open standards instead of inventing their own concurrent solution each time new technology comes around.
Hypothetically DirectX would be suitable as an open standard, replacing Vulkan, right? I mean from a purely technical stand point, they could open source it and turn it over to some standard's body or something. I ask because I am not well informed enough on the technical aspects.

Edit:

Could you imagine the DX12(or 13 or whatever) equivalent of anv, radv etc?

Great, thanks for providing such option! Do you think GOG release is likely, or they are still undecided? I'm tempted to buy it on itch now, but I'd prefer GOG if it will eventually happen.
They're still undecided, which has been the case for quite some time now, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
I don't get GOG's politics at times... almost as if they don't want to compete, or maybe think they don't have any competition?

Thanks for having it on itch, instabought.

EDIT: Not that I could have bought it on GOG even if I'd wanted to - their recent "improved" redesign effectively prevents me from logging in. Good job, GOG.
There is a whole thread related to GOG's curation here: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/what_do_you_think_of_gogs_current_level_of_curation/page1 [External Link]

Descent: Underground is now just Descent and plans to release next year, new trailer up (updated)

According to this Raven was acquired in 1997: https://variety.com/1997/biz/news/activision-set-to-acquire-raven-1116676216/ [External Link]

Edit:

From Activison's annual report in 1998: "ENHANCE PRODUCT FLOW. In order to expand the Company's library of titles, intellectual property rights and talent base, the Company
is actively engaged in the exploration of acquisition opportunities in
the software development business. Consistent with this strategy, in
August 1997 the Company acquired Raven Software Corporation ("Raven"),
an entertainment software developer based in Madison, Wisconsin, that
has created numerous best selling titles, including HERETIC, HEXEN:
BEYOND HERETIC and HEXEN II."

Edit 2:

From the same report: "ACQUISITION OF RAVEN SOFTWARE CORPORATION
On August 26, 1997, the Company completed its acquisition of Raven
Software Corporation ("Raven") in exchange for 1,040,000 shares of the
Company's common stock. This transaction was accounted for as an
immaterial pooling; accordingly, periods prior to April 1, 1997 were
not restated retroactively for this transaction. However, weighted
average shares outstanding and earnings per share data were
retroactively restated for the affect of the Raven acquisition for all
periods presented."

What? Activision sold Raven at some point? I never heard about that before.

The gameplay teaser is more specific than "PC". It has the Windows logo. So it is not looking good right now.

Theme park management tycoon 'Megaquarium' has fixed some Linux issues, Linux build now on GOG (updated)

Quoting: TheSyldatThey built the game against the steam runtime and staticly linked everything to it ? What could those "build difficulties" be otherwise ?
Why would that be a problem? AFAIK everything in the Steam runtime is FLOSS and there is nothing stopping a developer from distributing a game using it on GOG.

I am no expert but it seems alot of companies have less than optimal processes involving GOG builds. I mean, shouldn't they ideally set things up so there is no such thing as a separate GOG build?

Just a bunch of files, the same files, uploaded to two different places?

The Linux market share on Steam is at a 14 month high as of September 2018

Quoting: GuestIf i recall well, we were at .59% last month. That would make a relative 20% increase in proportion.
Nah, you're counting the wrong way. If we were at .59 and went up to .71, the increase is relative to .59 as the 100% value, meaning this would be more correct: (.79 / .51) * 100 - 100

We're up 25.42%! :D
According to my phone's calculator app ((0.71 - 0.51)/(0.51)) * 100 is about 20.34.
