Torque 2D Game Engine Offers Full Linux Support In New Update

Quoting: loggfreakid tech doesn't support linux, they did untill id-tech 4, but id-tech 5 doesn't anymore(as far as i've seen no games have linux version on id-tech 5)
From what I can tell/understand id Tech 5 would be very very easy to port to Linux if need be. I don't think they can really use the engine as a reason not to support Linux.

Is there any list of UE3 games that have been ported so far? I only remember 3, Papa & Yo, Dungeon Defenders and Painkiller Hell & Damnation. Is that it so far? Icculus mentioned on Twitter the other day that he had ported several UE3 titles: https://mobile.twitter.com/icculus/status/456969050267340800?p=v [External Link]

I guess that would include some unannounced/unreleased ports then?

Edit:

Wikipedia has a big list (I counted like 347 games) of UE3 games. They list platforms and only the games I mentioned + Dungeon Defenders: First Wave and upcoming game Migthy No. 9 list Linux as a platform.

  • Unreal 3 is easy to port (call Icculus if you need to)

  • unreal 3 never had linux port and unlike 4 it doesn't include source access like 4 does. so, yes... this might be a problem. would probably be more feasible to port it to UE4 (depends how backward compatible is, i have no clue)

while UE4 on linux you can track status here

    editor is not yet working

one thing is sure, i'd buy linux version of b2 on day one
    (Emphasis mine)

This is only the case with the Unreal Development Kit they released to the public, a company like Gearbox has a full engine license including source code access. Porting to UE4 would be utterly insane and would take a lot of time, effort and resources, they would have to re-write all the gameplay code for one thing. It would also be completely useless and unnecessary since they could just port the game as is like Icculus did with the UE3 games he already ported.

Does the fact that Apsyr Media is involved in the Linux(and Mac OSX) ports of the new Civ game mean that we will have to select platform on Steam and that it won't support Steamplay?

"The engine we are using doesn't support Linux" is getting harder and harder to use as an excuse for not bringing a game to Linux. Linux has Goldsrc, Source, id Tech 1, id Tech 2, id Tech 3, id Tech 4, Unreal Engine 1, Unreal Engine 2, Unreal Engine 4, Unity 4, Unity 5, CryEngine 3, Leadwerks(can't remember version number), Unigine, Godot Engine, C4 Engine, a boatload of FLOSS engines and a boatload of engines propietary to certain developers and/or publishers. With more engines being easily portable. There should be something for virtually every conceivable use/need out there. 2D, 3D, Indie, FLOSS and AAA are all covered with several different choices for each of those categories.

I am pretty sure they did not use the UDK but had a full on engine license with source code access.

The problem with this is that the UDK doesn't give source code access(unlike the new UE4 subscriptions) and doesn't have any Linux support. I just don't see how they could create a true port. Can you really ever truly port something without source code access?
