Quoting: KristianYeah Unreal Engine 1.x and 2.x supported Linux, but there is no official support for UE3 or UE4. Even though UE3 was gonna be the first version with even the tools having Linux support. Epic's regression in the Linux arena is one of the biggest setbacks Linux gaming has endured in the past several years. id Software too.
It's my impression that UE3 currently has Linux support in the engine, only most of the full licensees don't care enough to use it, and Indies using the affordable UDK aren't able to make use of it. Recently Dungeon Defenders was being advertised as the first UE3 game running natively on Linux, and reports here said that it even works decently

Back in the old days Unreal Tournament worked quite well on my Linux box, so it's nice to see news of Linux support making a return.
There is no official support by Epic. They aren't maintaining any kind of Linux support or Linux branch at all, although it would appear they may provide licensees with access to the work that Ryan Gordon did on his never completed/released UT3 port. But AFAIK UE3 doesn't have a Linux version as such. IIRC Ryan Gordon had to use a combination of the official Mac OSX build, his own prior work on UT3 and the official iOS version of UE3 in order to port Dungeon Defenders.

How is this possible? AFAIK UDK doesn't support Linux. UDK supporting Linux would be huge news!
Interesting question...
Unreal Engine itself supported Linux in the past, and recently it has been supporting it again, but I have not seen news that the free UDK is able to generate Linux builds. Seems Unrealistic that a Hidden Gem would have the budget to license the full Unreal Engine tools to generate a Linux build -- maybe someone will ask the project creator to clarify.

But Epic is worse in a way because id atleast still uses OpenGL and stuff like that making their games more Wine friendly and they open source game engines after a while. Epic has AFAIK never really done. I believe they released PARTS of the Unreal 1 source code under the Artistic License of all things. I believe it may even have been the original version of that license.

Shadow Warrior Classic Redux to support Linux
16 Jul 2013 at 9:26 pm UTC

They are saying that with Duke3D Megaton Edition as well and that involves the same publisher (Devolver Digital), developer(General Arcade) and IP owner(3D Realms, well they own everything Duke prior to DNF. DNF and post-DNF games belong to Gearbox).

Edit:

I should also note that Devolver Digital have shown themselves to be one of the the most Linux friendly publishers on the planet.

Isn't this the game that was gonna have Linux support because it was using Unigine but then it switched to Unity and the Linux version was canned because Unity didn't support Linux and that time?

Quoting: KristianIt looks like I won't be buying this. GOG obviously doesn't have the Linux version but what is worse it appears the Linux version is not on Steam either and you have to buy it on the Replay Games website. But there are two problems with that: A)You need an account there and B) You must choose one platform. Windows OR Linux OR Mac.

A) may not have stopped me were it not for B). But so long as I can't get this with Steamplay or the equivalent I am not getting this.
Wow that's quite bad, I have emailed them to get some answers.

To have Steam Play for Windows and Mac only yet buy on their site for only one platform, that's stupid.
Someone on the GOG forums is claiming it is an error with the games description on Steam and that it actually does have the Linux version. The only thing I know is that TUX is missing on the games Steam page.

Edit:

Fixed the error.
