GOverlay for configuring the MangoHud performance overlay new release out
21 Jul 2022 at 12:16 pm UTC

Fantastic to know that Mangohud shows the reason of the throttling, steam deck is revolutionizing things 😅

A small question: GOverlay has some tool to help edit reshade shaders? I use only Vibrance.fx and it's a bit annoying to edit on the text editor.

The problem is that this means Snap Gaming, so probably nothing to see here.

GoG made a "giveaway" with this game, but I didn't play it yet (like 90% of the giveaways on GoG).

It looks cheap, but interesting, I'll check it sometime

Canonical going 'all in' on gaming for Ubuntu, new Steam Snap package in testing

Quoting: tamodoloFedora 36 is the first Linux release that actually solves input delay to be on pair with windows. They did this unintentionaly as it was an issue related to touchpads. I am extremely happy by this fix as FINALY FINALY Linux is starting to move forward instead of just doing sidesteps and go anywhere.
I'm following this release and didn't read anything about this, looks like gnome improved the way that it handles input to be on par to the FPS and not to the refresh rate.

What fedora 36 have to make it different?

Quoting: scaineThat's a great turnaround from a few years ago, when the threatened removal of 32-bit libraries would have crippled the O/S from a gaming perspective.

A better gaming experience in what is still an incredibly popular "entry" distro is superb news.
I think that the idea of removing 32 bits was always to push snaps. I agree that 32bits could be removed in favor to sandboxing, but that time they didn't have anything to show.

If they had a Steam Snap that time, things would be different.

10fps faster than 30fps.
33.33% better!

I think that he want to say 40hz and not FPS, but anyway.

Quoting: M@GOidGaming performance would be bottlenecked by the quadcore CPU. Youtube Channel ETA Prime kept their promise of testing a external GPU via the m.2 slot. While there were gains in most games, it is clear that the CPU cannot keep up with something much more powerful than the iGPU.

This actually demonstrates that the components of the Steam Deck APU were carefully chosen, to make the best use of its 15W power limit.

I didn't watch the video yet but yeah, of course the CPU is a bottleneck, games can't run at extremely high fps, but a GPU will help to run games at higher resolution on same fps.

Quoting: japzoneNot possible since the Steam Deck only has USB 3.2 Gen 2 which, not only doesn't have enough bandwidth for an eGPU, it doesn't have the needed PCIe access. You'd need USB4/Thunderbolt 3+ if you want an eGPU over USB-C.

Currently the only viable eGPU method on the Steam Deck involves using an adapter to plug a GPU into the M.2 SSD slot inside the device.
Oh true, I forgot about this "little" detail.

Would be nice if the dock had a more powerful GPU (eGPU?) that the deck switches to it when it's docked.

I was a DRM free enthusiast, loved GoG.

But I noticed that they simply don't care about Linux. A lot of DOSBox games with support only to Windows, Linux ports needing the installation of libraries even on supported distro (bad UX), ports that don't even work anymore on any distro, GoG galaxy exclusive to Windows (they even detects the OS and disallow the download on Linux).

While Steam do a huge investment on Linux, with improvements on Kernel and Drivers.

I sincerely don't care about them.
