Another SteamVR release is up, further improving the VR experience on Linux

Somehow I feel the whole thumb stick click is blown out of proportion. It is true that the thumb sticks don't appear clickable when they are moved too far from the centre position. But clicking a thumb stick is not the most comfortable thing to do in any controller. Especially when you have to keep control over the position. So to me it seems like a bad idea in general to have an interface that requires it.

So far I've mostly been working out to use things in the most optimal way. I had a lot of issues with tearing. It was suggested that it was related to having a GSYNC monitor, but it didn't get better if I disabled it completely. However, it now appears that this was related to reprojection. Turning it off eliminated the tearing and gives me a much smoother experience in general. I just need to make sure that the rendering scale is appropriate for the type of game to keep fps high. So no 150% rendering for Talos Principle VR. Now if I can only figure out how to pick up those tetris pieces. :D

A three-way look at Rocket League on Linux, with D9VK versus Linux Native

Looks like the native version is pretty good. And I expect it starts faster and less chance of suddenly developing issues.

Is it different for AMD?

Nice that you actually fight each other now. It was somewhat annoying to finally beat the person on top and still have that particular person come out with 100 health. I suppose it can still happen with odd numbers, but at least the chances are smaller.

I really enjoy those Klei animations. Makes you wonder if they would ever branch out into animated series.

It is interesting how they select these games. The list appears to be completely random. As if they chose a random bunch of people to each find one or two games that worked without issues.

It's a slippery slope though. This one gets a bit of focus because it means something in English. But there is a ton of stuff going around that means other things in a lot of other languages. Change this one for this reason and the rest will have to change as well.

Steam Play Proton 4.11 released, a pretty huge release pulling in D9VK and a replacement for esync

Quoting: liamdaweAlso, sorry for the delay everyone. Yesterday was my 31st birthday so I took a rare 100% day off, I'm in catch-up mode now.
I'm surprised you managed that! :D Well done! You should probably do it more often.

I'm particularly interested in this new release because it includes the updates needed to use the new Index controllers in games that have specific support for them. And now the temperature is dropping again, I can continue my VR adventures.

The first-person exploration puzzle game "Supraland 2" managed to get funded

Quoting: GuestUnless you're sure that your HUD works in all OpenGL games no matter what, a better method to verify would be to uninstall Vulkan...
No need, NVidia overlay says it uses Vulkan.

As I said above, the reason that this game performs badly is rooted in much more fundamental problems.

Quoting: GuestConclusion: UE4 has abysmal performance on Linux, getting roughly half the frame rate of Proton. Epic: please get all platforms using Vulkan inside your engine ASAP.
While that may be true, I don't think this particular game is really a good demonstration of it. Even though Proton gives higher fps, the performance is still horrible for what it's doing. Especially on resolutions higher than 1080p. There are serious problems in this game that appear to be present on all platforms. They just hit Linux harder because it now drops below comfortable framerates.
