Quoting: ShmerlThat's not true. This only happens when it forces the load of the steam library. Some games don't do it at all. Some allow you to choose (like Shadow Warrior). Those games you can move away from the steam library and will run perfectly fine after you remove steam entirely.Quoting: LeopardGame itself is Drm free. While game might be intended to be DRM-free, Steam makes everything there DRMed. So don't misinform others please.
Steam is not = Drm

However, I think I saw an option to lock the crosshair, so with that it should be possible to get normal joystick control if they make it so you can bind arbitrary axes. I hope they will.

Quoting: SchattenspiegelNice to see they are still trying to deliver.I couldn't get mine to work. That said, I'm not so sure the current method of combat would transfer well to joystick because you don't really control the ship. Instead, you control a crosshair and the ship follows it with yaw and pitch motion. Additionally you do have keyboard control for forward/backward and sideways (strafe) movement (and roll if you want it). It's a bit odd at first, but once you get used to it, it works quite well. I tried it with an xbox360 controller as well, but I couldn't find the accuracy I needed.
Does anyone know if they happen to have proper joystick support in yet?

The game is indeed a bit grindy. But some of it appears to be knowledge gathering grind rather than actual grinding for resources. This feels a bit overwhelming when you start. I'm not quite there myself, but it looks like things get much more direct when you understand all of the mechanics better.
One of Valve's choices of games to highlight for Steam Machines is more than a little silly

It's said that for at least two years. A steam discussion thread I replied to in 2015 about this exact claim came back life today as well.

At some point I was trying to work out what the deal was with a broken space station segment with shields and door. I took a bit too long and suddenly loads of enemies jumped in, including several battle ships. I barely managed to jump out by flying in between the two legs of a battleship and use the thing as cover. Spawned into the next are surrounded by at least 20 enemies. Including one of those things that sucks your shield away. I died before the new jump direction was calculated. Probably about 15 seconds.

Quoting: WorMzyHas anyone managed to die any quicker than 38 seconds? Asking for... a friend. :whistle:If later spawns count, then yes.

Quoting: liamdaweI've had a few more since then. For the last one I got into the second sector with a big Okkar ship with a jump jammer surrounded by turrets and about 10 fighters around it. It redefined swift.Quoting: EhvisAlso, my death was swift. :DOnly the one? :P

It seems pretty FPS friendly indeed. Running about 40 fps on 3440x1440 on epic settings.
Only bug I've found in my short play is the (previously mentioned) mouse offset bug in windowed mode (which was default). The major shortcoming of the game is that you can't actually use your joystick to play it, but this appears to be the case on windows as well.
Also, my death was swift. :D

The co-op, action RPG 'Dauntless' may see Linux support in future

I've seen a small bit of gameplay and it looks very much like the Monster Hunter games. Monster Hunter always seemed kind of odd to me because it feels like you're only doing boss battles which can take all the way up to an hour to do.
It's UE4, so it should be doable. It may take a while if it has problems like other UE4 games.

The Frostbite engine apparently has partial Linux support but that doesn’t mean we’ll get ports anytime soon

Quoting: AzPJohan (and other developers at Dice) has been active members in the development of Vulkan (based on his experionce on running the Frostbite Engine an Mantle). I would assume that Frostbite can actually run on Vulkan, though perhaps not fully optimized, etc. That actually sounds quite reasonable. This is a direction that engines need to take for the future. That would have been a big chunk of the porting work done without specifically targetting Linux. The remainder could be done as an experiment that never needs to see the light of day.

Quoting: Crazy PenguinSure it's true! I can expand my team by 1-2 people adding & fixing multiplayer. No impact at all for your single player experience! ;)Wow. You've never actually worked in a real world company, have you?
