New US Congress bill proposal requires all operating system providers to verify ages

Quoting: tfkThis is not the job of a government. This is the job of the parents.
And the article mentions a "parents decide act", which I could theoretically get behind. I don't think it is outside of the governments job to make sure that information and tools are provided by companies to help parents actually parent their children.

Of course this one is .... problematic. It doesn't really take a realistic stance of what operating systems are, what user software is and how things work together. Also giving parents the tools and information is not the same trying to enforce it into everything where it will undoubtedly run into problems of what can technically be achieved.

So again this feels like it was designed by people who's idea of "operating systems" doesn't go beyond phones and tablets.

Book of Travels from Might and Delight goes offline in July but you'll still be able to play alone

When the game released it required an external account (store page actually still says that), which was an immediate "hell no". Especially combining that with early access (which is apparently also still the case). So yeah, for me the game basically sabotaged itself. Probably not what caused the more general lack of interest since I don't think many people are as strict as I am.

Amazon Luna rips out game stores, game purchases and third-party subscriptions

I played two games on Luna (free with amazon prime). Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Hogwarts Legacy. It was ... functional. I could play the games and didn't really have major technical problems. What I did have was pretty major input lag. Nothing you'd notice while running around in the game, but grab your mouse for some menu-ing and you notice instantly. It also made it hard to use guns in Indiana Jones. Graphically it kind of looks mediocre. Having a 1080p render on my 1440p ultrawide that went through video compression is just not something to write home about.

I have now cancelled my prime subscription. Only one more subscription left to cancel!

I watched the whole thing and saw a few things that peaked my interest. Also some curious choices and games that are definitely not for me. But did "Prove you're human" really try to sell itself to me by showing captchas? That would be one of the most curious choices.

Dune: Awakening to get self-hosted servers, plus they're splitting PvE and PvP

The question is how much control will you have over the game in a self hosted server? And more importantly, will you be able to disable the EAC requirement on a self hosted server? If so, it would be a major step forward in this game's future preservation and my interest in actually trying it out. Because if I look at the reviews and see multiple instances of people losing all their work because they didn't play for a week removes any interest I might have in the game.

This is one of the first games I played when Steam came to Linux. In fact, the achievements say about a week after I created my Steam account. Good memories!

Gave it a quick try, but that didn't go well. First time the UI didn't come up at all. Other attempts either locked up the game or gave me an error -203. Stable version has many issues as well, but those only appear on some games.

Quoting: pbPurchasing power rate is great, but milti-variable is way higher that both of them, for whatever reason. And it's not only for PLN, same goes for euro and GBP prices. It's almost like one of the "multi variables" was greed. 🤔
It's not really. Don't forget that $ prices don't include VAT. It says $100 is €85 and 100/85 = 1.176, so it accounts for 17.6% VAT, which is lower than most (if not all) of the eurozone.

The Long Dark story reaches the finale with episode five out now and a big discount

When I read the news, I checked when I last played this game. It was August 2017, some time after I finished episode 2. I probably forgot how to play this game entirely. 😆

French consumer group UFC-Que Choisir sues Ubisoft over The Crew shutdown

This case specifically is a good test case as nothing in this game should technically be able to run entirely without the servers. Anything multiplayer is entirely optional and therefore having it locked down is clearly just a kill switch.
