The sad reality of most multiplayer games on gog (ب_ب)
But this is old, at the time the Linux version didn't have yet multiplayer...
For small developers, the only opportunity they have is to use the multiplayer infrastructure from others. In this case that would be Steam or GOG Galaxy. Which means that Linux will be out of luck for the GOG version.

Tomb Raider's Linux port from Feral Interactive delisted on Steam

Quoting: Cyba.CowboyIt's no big loss... Feral Interactive do horrible ports, and having a low-quality port available for Linux-based operating systems sends the wrong message to new Linux gamers.
The Feral Vulkan ports they have been making for the last couple of years are the best ever made. Proton can't match it. So that statement is pure nonsense.

I have 32 games that are flagged unsupported. 30 of those were either VR (most) or anti-cheat.

For Steam Deck it would probably help greatly to skip the native port. Unlike the next two TR games, this one was still OpenGL and there are a couple of areas where framerate suffered greatly. This was way back when I still played on a GTX970, but I don't think it was the GPU that was the limiting factor. I have no desire to play this game again, so I won't be testing it.

Quoting: GuestSo basically you can expect 10% of your games totally unsupported and more than 50% fully enjoyable.
Not bad!
If you check the "unsupported" list, you find that the bulk of it is either VR or anti-cheat.

Quoting: BeamboomIs it just me, or do most kickstarter projects with a promised Linux version end up like this? I feel it's happened over and over and over now...
No, see this:

https://www.gamingonlinux.com/crowdfunders/
That page only lists the ones that did deliver. It doesn't tell anything about what share they represent in the totality - how many crowdfounded projects that did not deliver on promise.
Did you even look at the page?

Get ready to sweat with VR rhythm game Groove Gunner out now

There's also a few tricks for anyone interested in livestreaming it including:

  • LIV support to use avatars and custom camera angles
This applies to Windows users only though. I wish LIV would work on Linux, but it's not available, neither native nor through wine/Proton.
But if the game has a freely configurable cam build in... it's possible to get something similar on screen. Beat Saber has it via the cam+/cam2 mod, Synth Riders, Boom Box and Cybrid have it built in.
But I think Ehvis said Groove Gunner has that feature on the road map too.
They practically have everything in place already. The whole auto groove cam features allows for arbitrary view points and directions and has FOV support. So I did ask whether the auto groove cam patterns where changeable by mortals, but that wasn't the case. But it would actually be as simple as storing the patterns in an xml file instead of hardcoding them. But obviously, I have no idea where that particular things sits on the todo list.

The top tier hand coordination helps, but it's not really necessary. My method is strictly based on building up muscle memory by repetition and it works. The funny thing is, that faster you get, the less tired you get. It still makes me sweat, but not nearly as much as it used to when I was still fighting for my Marksman scores. I suppose this applies to every rhythm game, the more experience you have, the more efficient you do it.

And yes, if you have a VR headset, get it! The game is awesome and the devs are awesome as well.

Quoting: CorbenOr just wait until Valve has re-encoded the videos, like they already did for many others (Exo One).
The problem with that plan is that there are also games for which it never seems to happen.

Quoting: EhvisIn the end, the only solution that would satisfy the creators of client side anti-cheat would be to have some sort of a signed Linux system that they can get root access to.
Not really. I mean, that's what they want to do, because that's what they do on Windows, and having your application running all the time gets you valuable marketing and metrics. But userspace applications under Linux can have secure enclaves that are hidden from other applications, from the kernel, from hypervisors, whatever. They don't need kernel-level client-side anti-cheat; they just want it.
Aren't you kind of arguing against yourself now? Why would a company that believes in the value of client side anti cheat want their system hidden from the kernel? That goes against their philosophy.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleOh dear, that paradox again. He's worried about a big influx of cheaters from a negligibly small market?
If it works and money can be made, it would grow quickly among cheaters. Do any of us really want to see Linux gaming grow "that" way?
