Quoting: JuliusNon-steam games work though. A native non-steam build of a Unity VR app will pick up SteamVR just fine. And I've tried quite a few things from itch.oi as well. You can even add a Windows game/program as non-steam game and run it with proton.Quoting: denyasisThanks for the article. I'm glad you like it so much!Well, basically there are no VR games for the Linux desktop outside of Steam. But yes, right now the SteamVR headsets require Steam to run even for software launched outside of Steam itself.
Might sound dumb, but since this is hardware, does it "just work" in Linux for any VR game, or is it Steam exclusive? (Ie, will work on non steam games or with out steam at all)?
There is semi-functional work ongoing to make it possible to use HTC Vive and Occulus headsets without SteamVR via the OpenHMD and related projects though.

Quoting: MohandevirPersonally, I tried HL:Alyx with the Occulus Rift S and felt a lot of motion sickness, like a lot. 15 mins of play and I was done for at least two hours...My ability to tolerate continues motion changed day by day. Usually I took a 2 minute break after half an hour and didn't do more than 2 or 3 hours total. That was on an index at 120 Hz. Games without motion (like Groove Gunner) didn't affect me at all. Aside from getting physically tired. :)
I'm wondering if it would be the same with the Valve Index? Aside for the price, that's the main reason why I'm hesitating.

It was a fun little game when I tried it way back. It did have a big issue that repeated runs were inconsistent without a way to properly diagnose the problem. Let's see if they sorted that out.
David Rosen of Wolfire Games explains why they're taking on Valve in a lawsuit

Quoting: michaBut without a Steam key / any Steam features (DRM, ..), the price binding it's a kinda ridiculous.Agreed, if that is what is actually happening, it is something that needs to be crushed. And that would be something that has a chance of succeeding.
Wolfire Games filed a lawsuit against Valve over abuse of their market position

Basically the whole industry left Valve alone for a decade and didn't wake up to the future until it was too late. And now trying to break into the market in which Valve has a huge head start is nearly impossible. It's actually not unlike trying to make a new desktop OS to break into the Windows market share. Nice idea, but nearly impossible to achieve.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPI hope the lawsuit succeeds, although chances are naturally slim. All of that is irrelevant though. The reason why Valve can continue to ask for their cut, is because they can the deliver a lot of potential customers. No other store comes close. Even the big publishers that tried to sell exclusively on their own platform have been crawling back to Steam. And until that changes, Valve has no reason to make big changes to their pricing.
Their cut is and always has been too high.
Yes, they offer a ton of services, but practically no developer utilizes even half of them.
The solution is simple: Lower the minimal cut to something reasonable (closer to the Epic cut), then allow developers to opt-in to features they actually need, which would then increase the cut.

Metro Exodus and Hellpoint in May's Humble Choice, along with a new subscriber discount

b) You can get it for the entire month. The blind thing was while it was "Humble Monthly". Now you can just see if it is something you want.
c) You get charged for the number of months that you get. However, if you purchase multiple, you can "pause" to skip a month and it won't be deducted. My year subscription lasted for 2.5 years :D

Quoting: no_information_herea) How do we know these games will be in next month's choice? (see below)a) Unless they say something, you don't find out until it's there.
b) If I join after May 4th, do I miss those games or do they remain part of the sign up month?
c) If I join and then quit, how many months do I get charged for?

Ubuntu 21.04 is out now with Wayland by default and a new dark theme

Still not really seeing myself going to Wayland though (even when nvidia support is included in the near future). I need flawless support for G-Sync and VR for that to happen.

Quoting: EikeI didn't follow closely, but I'm surprised they've made the switch to default to Wayland. They've already missed several LTS "deadlines" for Wayland as default. I suppose they really didn't want to miss 22.04, so they had to start now.
I guess they wouldn't have done the same for an LTS version...?

I don't really see these games needing the performance that Vulkan could bring. Makes me wonder if their intent might be to go Stadia as well.
