Snoost, a new cloud gaming service has opened with Linux support, uses Steam's in-home streaming
28 March 2017 at 9:25 pm UTC

I would pay for such a service if it would allow me to play any game, even if I don't own it, or if there was a hourly credits option (buy 50hours, you have 6 months to use them).

Big drawback is of course the performance, most solutions like these are highly dependant on the ping, and were too mediocre for my requirements (even for my fibre connection). This seem to use AWS, so there's no instances in France for me (yet), and lag spikes are to be expected. I'm used to the 144fps and low input lag nowadays.
Also 60GB hard drive is disappointing this doesn't fit GTA+DOOM.

Still will test as there's a free try possibility. It seems you can add non-steam too, anyone tried that? how does it work? Can you mount a CD and install there? Copy files?

@LIAM, did you or anyone logged in with 2FA?

Quoting: runedaltonWe actually think the price is rather fair (in any case, due to server costs we can't go any lower). Some services have limited hours per month (e.g. 20 hours, for $20 to $30 per month), while Snoost is completely unlimited. That means you could literally play 10-20 hours a single day, and still just have spent a dollar.
what if you play 10 hours in a single day of the month?

The website states "Billed monthly", do you only pay for the day you used the service, or do you pay 32$ every month?

'Factorio' is another game that was being hit by key scammers
18 January 2017 at 9:43 pm UTC

developers keep trying to sell keys by themselves but they really don't know anything about online retail

QuoteIn many cases these people use a automated bot to deal with automatically purchasing the game and trying all of details in their credit card database, and then posting these keys to these 3rd party websites.
If you can't detect purchase bruteforcing, you deserve chargebacks (that's literally the reason they're there)

Quoteeach chargeback notice had to be handled on a case-by-case basis, at one point I was spending 12 or more hours a week dealing with individual purchases.

all I see is a terrible retail system

QuoteAfter some research, we switched from processing payments through braintree and paypal, and instead implemented the incredible Humble widget[www.humblebundle.com]. Specifically Humble widget has a built in fraud prevention, which completely stopped all the chargebacks we were seeing.

turns out online retail is an actual job, and if you try to set an online store up without knowing anything about circumventing fraud, you get scammed, I'm stunned!

you'll notice steam, gog, humble don't get hit by chargebacks, that's because they know their stuff

please game developers, if you insist on selling keys yourselves, have a pro build the payment system, if he doesn't know about 3-D Secure at least, get another one

Quoting: ShoNuffSome of you are full of it.
could you be any more toxic...

Quoting: ShoNuffIF this game works on wine and gets similar FPS to windows install, I guarantee you will buy and play in secret all while claiming NATIVE ONLY (in nerd voice).
I'm afraid that's not going to happen

Quoting: ShoNuffThere is a plethora of games that run better or just as good as windows through wine! I am an NVIDIA user and run a ton of games thru Steam using wine... it's not hard to do. The majority of wine complainers probably don't understand how to run the wine Prefix or for that matter write a script to run it from desktop.
no need for the condescending tone, geez

I use wine form previously bought games that don't have linux binaries, and I certainly know how to get good performance and have my ways with multiple prefixes. I am thankful for the work of wine developers, as I'm sure everyone is.
Still is hardly convenient to check wich prefix and setting to use everytime you install a game.

It's fine that you are content with wine solution, but I believe in the necessity not to reward videogame makers without linux builds, and I can easily fight the urge to play the latest overhyped crazes

Have been living solely on Linux for almost two years now, never been so satisfied with an OS

Quoting: tuubiI don't need to endure anything, and I'm not using Linux for the "principle". If anything, I run Linux for the convenience. Linux works for me, and no game is worth the pain in the neck that is Windows.
yes, amazes me that people refuse to see linux as an alternative when all I hear about windows nowadays is people complaining about fucked up drivers, updates resetting windows settings, privacy concern about the gazilion data-gathering dorment processes that are a pain to disable, useless preinstalled microsoft apps,...

Windows really has lost a lot in its maintenance easiness

Yep, that's my stance on gaming. No linux version, no money from me. Every major (and minor) game engine has mac and linux version. SDL2 supports every OS. There's no excuse to not have a linux version.

count me in as well

shame Blizzard has absolutely no interest in Linux

But they're part of the khronos group, so I guess there's hope in the long term

on the subject of drivers development, I'd like to remind this great post
http://www.gamedev.net/topic/666419-what-are-your-opinions-on-dx12vulkanmantle/#entry5215019

tl;dr: graphic engine development is a clusterfuck, and drivers are badly needed to fix horrible mistakes (but Vulkan/DX12 may save us all)

with Linux still ridiculous market share and lack of serious investment by videogame developers and graphic card manufacturers, it's a wonder some videogames even launch, performance comes last and the brightest minds on earth are busy fixing rendering in directX drivers
