Wow, this is great. Can't wait to see how Blender develops in the future with more develop hours able to be dedicated to it. :woot:

Crusader Kings II goes free to play, Paradox games on sale and possibly Crusader Kings III coming

Quoting: MisterPaytwickYep, I fixed it, but I was basing that part on the article because I didn't knew better.
Yeah, the wording was definitely a big ambiguous. "Free to play [in honor of|because of] PDXCon!" would've been a lot clearer than "Free to play for PDXCon!"

Stellaris: Federations and Stellaris: Lithoids Species Pack announced at PDXCON

I like the look of the Lithoids pack—I'd've been happy if it were merely cosmetic like the Plantoids pack, but it seems more like Synthetic Dawn with new mechanics attached. There's a screenshot of their traits with an interesting one highlighted that allows your pops to give off a tiny bit of Rare Gasses, which could make for an interesting playstyle. (Though I kinda hope that one isn't locked to Lithoids, it'd make sense as a more generally-available trait.)

Federations I'm less enthused about; we haven't really seen much in the way of teasers from the developer diaries yet so we don't really know much about what's in it. The Origins thing does sound cool (that was one of the things revealed), where they're taking some civics that you could only select at the start of a game and not switch away from (like Life Seeded) and making them into a new Origins system, where you get to pick an origin for your species. It sounds like they've expanded it out a bit beyond just the obvious civics that already exist, too. I'm excited to hear about the two mentioned there, Void Dwellers and Tree of Life. The new mega-structures also sound interesting, since I almost always end up building as many as I can. :)

I'm excited at the idea of a general diplomacy improvement (I hope they mimic the range of possible interactions available in EU IV, for instance), but I'll have to see what it entails before getting too excited at the specifics. Like I suspect a lot of people, I've never found federations particularly fun in Stellaris, but if they can turn that around I'm definitely interested.

Crusader Kings II goes free to play, Paradox games on sale and possibly Crusader Kings III coming

Quoting: MisterPaytwickSo temporary free to play and with only around at least 50€ of DLCs to have a quite complete game?
It's permanent free to play, it looks like.

The Scream Fortress XI event has launched for Team Fortress 2

I'm the opposite as well. I tried playing an also-ran MOBA way back in 2010, and I hated the pressure of being a newb but also responsible for 20% of my 5-person team. (That's the main reason I've never been interested in Overwatch.) In a team of 12 I feel a lot less pressure because my individual performance is a much small fraction of the team, so if I'm having an off-day or just not doing well for whatever reason I don't feel like I'm wasting everyone else's time by not pulling my weight. :) With 12 players you also get more chances for teamwork, which is what I really like about the game; once it's down to ~7 players or so it starts becoming all about 1v1 or 1v2 skill matches against scattered enemies, which I don't find as fun. I also main Medic, so the more people I have to keep alive in the chaos who can serve as meat shields protect me from the enemy team, the more I like it. :D

I'll have to jump in and see how it's going (haven't had a chance to play for a few weeks), Payload's my favorite game mode so it's always nice to see another map for it. ^_^

Quoting: mcphailThis remains the best game I've played on Linux. Going Free to Play might scupper the hope of a complete edition anytime soon but it is hard to be churlish when they're offering so much content for no money at all.
I don't know, multiple people on the forums are prophesying that this means the end of development on it (and thus a complete edition might be closer than we think). It's had two fairly meaty free patches since the last DLC, back in…the early part of the year? *checks wiki* Wait, Holy Fury came out about a week shy of a whole year ago‽ Wow. No announcement of any kind of upcoming DLC in that time, which is unusually long. In fact there's been a lot of radio silence on the forums from the devs for a while now…

Thus the speculation that this signals the announcement of CK III at PDXCon this weekend. I dunno if I 100% agree—could be that they've simply been saving an announcement of the next DLC for PDXCon—but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I didn't know that, no! ^_^

Valve will bring out 'Remote Play Together' to give online support to local multiplayer games

This looks great! Even more games I can play with distant friends. :)

The Blender team have secured even more funding, this time from NVIDIA

I wanted to get into fish model modding in Megaquarium recently, only to discover that Blender was specifically mentioned as not working due to the file format chosen. Here's hoping that more sponsorships like this in the future will lead to more support and more use of FOSS-compatible standards! :D
