openage, the open source game engine for Age of Empires II and more games is advancing

Quoting: STiATWould be cool. I do own AoE2HD... being able to play it would be cool
Same. I got Age of Empires II on CD when I was maybe 12, and it was the first computer game I was completely and utterly hooked on, so much so that I bought the HD version when it came out even knowing I was planning on switching from Windows to Linux in a year or so and wouldn't be able to play it natively anymore.

I also loved Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, so that'd be cool to see as well! :)

Quoting: no_information_hereThe current yes/no question is impossible to interpret. Otherwise, you need to specify:

"Did you use wine in the last month?" Yes/No
+1 to this—this is a much more specific question with a specific bit of data that can be gotten out of it: how many people used WINE in the last month. Otherwise it runs into ambiguous situations like does using WINE a lot two years ago and not touching it since count as "using WINE", or what if I only use it every four months? Etc., etc..

Like, I'm currently using WINE to make a Let's Play of an indie game called Dodge That Anvil! from 2006 which the developer has directly told me can't be updated or ported to Linux due to the technology used to make it (Macromedia Shockwave) being killed off by Adobe, but when I finish with that I have no current plans to continue using WINE. @no_information_here's question would let me update my WINE-using status each month in case things change.

Organics sighted, marking for destruction - Stellaris: Synthetic Dawn released along with a free patch

Played a few hours as a Rogue Servitor with a friend who went just "regular" machine hive mind, and it was great. I named my empire the Cosmic Embrace and had an absolute blast constantly spouting off lines about how organics were really much happier being pampered and cared for under our watchful optical sensors, that our entire purpose was to bring all organics into the fold, and how eventually the other organic races out there would come to realize that fact, oh yes, one day, they'll see, they'll all see… :)

It's great for role-playing, is what I'm trying to say.

There's so many Linux games on sale right now, it's a good time if you're skint

There's also a big Paradox sale that just started to coincide with the release of patch 1.8 and Synthetic Dawn for Stellaris.

Organics sighted, marking for destruction - Stellaris: Synthetic Dawn released along with a free patch

Just FYI that's the Avian ship set I believe—I just loaded up my pre-order copy of Synthetic Dawn to check out the new empire creation features, and there don't seem to be specific "Robot" ships. Kinda makes sense as these synthetic empires are explicitly said to be created by another space-faring race, so it's only natural they'd continue using ship designs (and city designs) that already exist rather than start from scratch.

Setting a primary monitor for launching games in a dual monitor rig

Quoting: tmtvlWell, you're assuming the application doesn't capture the mouse and doesn't behave weirdly when moved between monitors.
Well, I'm assuming Alt+Tab is a thing (are there desktops where it's not?), but point taken about potential weird behavior when moving between windows.

Setting a primary monitor for launching games in a dual monitor rig

Serious question: is right-clicking the game icon in the task bar and selecting "Move to the other monitor" not a feature on most desktops? I mean, it takes all of 5 seconds in Cinnamon. I agree it should be easier to set a primary monitor and have it stick, but it's just such a non-issue to me. (Though I'll concede that it's possible it's less of an issue for me because I have two identical monitors, so I don't really care where a game pops up. I could see it being a problem if you have a bigger/better monitor you want to play games on and smaller/worse secondary one for other things.)

Protect your Sheep in 'Operation Sheep Defense', a fast-paced Tower Defense game that's actually good
18 Sep 2017 at 7:08 pm UTC

Instead of enemies simply getting from A to B and harming you if they reach B, they have to pick up the sheep and take them to their exit point.
Levels don't always have a fully pre-defined path for enemies.
What makes it more amusing, is that your sheep will actually attempt to walk back to their original place, if you manage to destroy the unit that captured them. This gives you a chance to protect them, but it also gives the enemy another chance to recapture them away from your main area. A simple, yet very clever idea for such a game.
Those three things are also core features of the excellent tower defense games Defense Grid & Defense Grid 2, only you're protecting your energy cores from aliens. I wonder if they provided inspiration for this game? If you like it you might enjoy them, though only the second one is on Linux.

Well, duh. How do you think we've advanced beyond hunter-gatherer civilization level? :P

The beautiful space combat game 'EVERSPACE' finally lands on Linux in an unofficial form
8 Sep 2017 at 10:18 pm UTC

I'm seeing a lot of comparisons to FTL: Faster Than Light in the reviews, a game I seriously enjoy (Steam says 358 hours  ). I'll definitely check out some gameplay videos, it looks really beautiful. It's definitely on the wishlist at the very least.

(Also that "Plays best with [picture of stylized keyboard + mouse]" on the Steam page is reassuring to see for someone who's never mastered a controller. :) )
