For anyone confused why Epic Games Store is noted it's because you can install it using Proton inside of Steam.Hey, I heard you like game launchers, so now you can launch your game launcher from inside your other game launcher…

This reminds me that, come July 12, it'll have been eleven years since I built my first desktop and put Linux on it. Most of those original parts are still going strong! (So far only one RAM module [out of four] and the PSU have failed.)

It's all hand-crafted spelling errors and terrible grammar here.🤣 Can relate!

Steam Next Fest - June 2025 edition is live with new demos

A bit late now, but I tried the demo for Gecko Gods. It reminded me of a Legend of Zelda game where you're a gecko. You can climb on any surface (which does cause some confusion with the movement controls on occasion), can dash at pots to break them and recover glowing runes*, can swim but not dive, and go about solving puzzles in the environment (often, at least in the demo, to lower some water level to access a new area). After completing three main puzzles on the starting island I got a boat, which I presume lets you visit the other islands visible around (though the demo ends just as you head out onto the ocean).
Overall it was a pretty chill experience. There were a few robotic enemies, but they were pretty easy to dodge or defeat (just dash at them a few times). There are different insect types around the world which you can eat (and get a message about "new insect discovered"), and some friendly crows you can talk to. Otherwise it's mostly just enjoying crawling around every which way over pretty much any surface you can see and exploring the gorgeously stylized world.
*I had over 1300 by the time I finished exploring the starting island in the demo, but couldn't find any obvious use for them; maybe the don't do anything in the demo, or on that island.

spacegravship stuff in this expansion is basically making the highly-popular mod Save Our Ship 2 official (minus some things like ship-to-ship weapons and combat), and SOS 2 was around years before Stardeus released*. I doubt Tynan needed to look elsewhere for inspiration.
*Or at least the original SOS was, I don't know exactly how far it goes but I know it was a fairly early mod.

I just hope they did not steal many ideas from Stardeus. The

On the other – I get my fill of "aggressively random with no guarantee of being able to solve it" in real life, so…

This game is a response to the current trend of Immersive Sim design, where every ability is perfectly suited to solve a specific problem in the game. In order to counter this "Lock and Key" philosophy, Mosa Lina is aggressively randomY'know…on the one hand – I'm an old Dwarf Fortress player, I can respect that philosophy in a game.
