Dwarf Fortress has some exciting plans for the future

Ooh, that sounds interesting. One of the big differences between Dwarf Fortress and RimWorld is that in DF you can have a totally impregnable base, and if you have self-sufficient food production you can just wait out sieges. That can be fun in its own way (so I'm glad to see it'll still be an option), but sieges that can't be defeated simply by pulling up the drawbridge ought to make for some really interesting fortress reports that I look forward to reading! :woot: Megabeast and kobold attacks being made more interesting also sounds good.

Tryhard is a sports RPG about managing an underdog rugby club in New Zealand

The trailer makes it look like a fun and fresh take on sports games, and the Aotearoa setting is something new and different. Unfortunately my problem is not lacking knowledge of rugby, but interest…

Hearts of Iron IV: Graveyard of Empires confirmed for a March release

The most popular game from Paradox Development Studio, Hearts of Iron IV
That is interesting, I'd've guessed Stellaris (for 4X broader appeal) or CK 3 (for the RPG crowd). Huh.

Same lovely pixel art and animations from Monster Sanctuary, I see.

Strategy business sim Summer Islands a spiritual successor to Holiday Island from 1996 is out now

Wow, I picked this up several years ago when it first released in Early Access, tried it for a bit, found it quite barebones at the time, and mostly forgot about it until now. I'll have to give it another shot.

Roll the dice to make crazy combos instead of collecting cards in the roguelike Die in the Dungeon

Usually when people mix up the singular and plural forms of the chance polyhedrals it's using "dice" to refer to a single die, but this should clearly be titled Dice in the Dungeon, you're definitely using more than one!

Horse Runner DX is a wholesome endless-runner where you play as a herd of different horses
11 Jan 2025 at 8:55 pm UTC

So... you run your horse to death, then switch to the next one in the herd?
I just have this horrible mental image of the lead horse in the herd missing a jump and breaking a leg, and the rest of the herd sweeping stoically on by without breaking stride. That's probably not how such a wholesome-looking game handles it, though.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII is Steam Deck Verified with the Linux version ahead of release on February 11

I won't be buying at launch (for a few reasons, mainly my current financial situation) but I'll be keeping a close eye on it and from what I've already seen I expect I will probably be getting it sooner rather than later. But we'll see.

Dwarf Fortress - Adventure Mode launches January 23, plus Beta 28 is out now

Other tweak
• Fixed broken medium taupe coloration for nightmare sphere screaming mouths fabric
Ah, Dwarf Fortress patch notes, never change.

I was always more of a fortress player than an adventure mode player (though I did have some memorable run, like when I realized gravity is the most dangerous killer in the game), but I'm glad to see it come up to parity again.

Valve saw a record-breaking 19,000 games released on Steam in 2024

And yet there's only 39 so far a few days into 2025, people are slacking around the holidays.
