Become an AI, build a station and grow some humans in Starmancer

Quoting: GuestOh, I was interested but it’s just a sandbox? No campaign? Or is it just for this demo?
I'm not 100% sure as this is just a demo, but I think the idea is that it's like Dwarf Fortress or RimWorld, so more of a sandbox than something that would have a campaign.

I too backed the original Kickstarter for this game, and ran into the broken Linux demo a day or two ago, so it's good to see that got fixed. I tried it out for a hour today for the first time. It's quite playable, but I feel they really need to sit down and watch a first-time player encounter it—even with the tutorial I had multiple steps where it took me some time to figure out how to do what the tutorial told me to do. "Send your crew on a mission to the escape pod to rescue the colonist in it"—ok, but when I click the ship to bring up the away mission interface, I can't select any of my crew or hit the "send mission" button and there's no indication of what I'm doing wrong. It's apparently a "mining" mission, do I need to give one of my crew the "miner" profession? No, wait, there is no miner profession. Oh, you first have to select the ship you want to use from the list in the away mission screen, and then you can select the crew to go on it*? That would've been nice to know. But this is polish, and something to add in the run-up to the actual release, so hopefully it'll be fine by then.

And while I'm on the topic of polish, I'd really like a way to move things rather than needing to destroy and rebuild them every time. But overall it's decently fun, I hadn't originally planned to play the whole hour the demo gives you but got drawn into it over the first fifteen minutes.

*Presumably because later on you'll have multiple ships to choose from.

I enjoyed Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun enough when I picked it up a few years ago that I figured whatever they came out with next in the same vein would be an automatic purchase for me. I see it finally came out today, but since I'm pretty flush with games to play at the moment I might as well wait for the native release. I'm curious to see how the setting changes the use of guns, since they were limited ammo but incredibly powerful in BotS but obviously they're pretty commonplace in the Wild West setting.

Ah yes, those well-known classic Wild West swamps.

Megaquarium: Freshwater Frenzy is a fantastic addition to a great game

Quoting: randylI'm trying to reduce my mechanical filter needs with habitat buffs.

Do you balance Nature and Science point gains or have you found a better ratio?
Ah, yeah, that's also quite useful.

I don't pay too much attention to the ratio for the most part. Unless you're really trying to maximize one I think it tends to be fairly balanced over time, though I admittedly haven't paid enough attention to confirm this. If you play long enough you'll eventually run out of things to research for both, so it's mainly down to whatever you want to unlock quicker at the time. Like if you have a bunch of modded animals (as I do), they'll require more ecology points to unlock.

Pumps in particular offer some really interesting strategies, like chaining tanks together to allow you to put all your heaters/coolers/filters/etc. in a single maintenance room so your mechanics don't have to go running all over your aquarium (though it's less efficient since you'll need more filters to maintain water quality).

Quoting: randylThe intro and tutorial are well presented which I think is important in a sim/builder. The graphics aren't fancy, but it looks good and so far I'm enjoying it.
Yeah, I think the campaign does a very good job of easing you into the game's systems, which are quite complex and intricate when you're finally playing with everything in the final scenario (or in the free-play mode). I'm playing the new Freshwater Frenzy campaign and it's doing a similar job of slowly teaching all the (many!) new features.

The more videos displaying gaming on Linux the better. I would be happy to watch your video:)
Well I don't want to promise anything I won't end up delivering (especially as that would be a good amount of work to put together), but—thanks. I will think about it. :)

Blender 2.83 is out as the first ever LTS, gains initial VR support

Quoting: setzer22It makes me feel blender doesn't take the gamedev use case seriously. Another case I can think of is their collada exporter: It does not export animations (just the currently selected one). Can you believe that? I don't many people are doing animation work for games with Blender, otherwise these would be top-priority issues.
I think you're probably correct with that, didn't they drop the internal game engine a few versions ago?

Steam Play Proton 5.0-8 has a Release Candidate up for testing

Quoting: GuestJWE now runs, as well as Planet Zoo! :)
Just tested Planet Zoo too, and it ran fine for the ~10 minutes I tried it. It didn't start at all before with the main Proton branch, I was using a custom build mentioned here. Looks like I can switch back now. :)
