Grab 50% Off The Excellent 'This War Of Mine', We Have 10 Codes For You
13 Feb 2015 at 3:21 pm UTC

I tried all the remaining codes, and none of them were valid :'( . Oh, well. I'm certainly interested in the game, and, although my disposable income is pretty much depleted, I will buy it. Eventually.

I apparently have quite a number of alleys, and this looks like it's right up, uh, one of them :P . One I missed completely in the 90s . Eagerly awaiting more news.

Nightside, A Fantastic Looking Real Time Strategy May Come To Linux
11 Feb 2015 at 11:49 pm UTC Likes: 1

Oh, hell. I voted for it, and said something on the page somewhat like the below:

If there is any genre of games that there are unrepresented for Linux gamers, it has got to be RTS. We do have Megaglest, 7kaa (HIGHLY recommended, BTW. It's worth buying from GOG just to get the manual, which is pretty extensive and makes one realize that this is one complex game), and Warzone 2100. There's also Spring, of course.

The current RTS champ for any platform is, IMHO, Planetary Annihilation, which keeps getting better and better and better, with a much-improved solo experience, and some vicious multiplayer experience. Thanks to Feral, we also have the (mostly) excellent Empire:Total War, something of a hybrid.

Therefore, any more "classic" RTS games, with resources and base-building, are more than welcome for we non-twitch gamers who still like watching things move around in a strategy game.Oh, hell. I voted for it, and said something on the page somewhat like the below: Nightside does seem to be a little Starcraft-esque. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

This is not to suggest that I don't still love my turn-based strategy games. CIV V, X-COM:EU, Pandora:First Contact (which a number of people consider better than CIV:BE, and which is a lot cheaper), and, of course, Dominions 4 (My own #1  ).

Grim Fandango Remastered - Let's Review What's New

Nice to see a balanced review of GF Remastered. The Steam forums for the game, unsurprisingly, featured many pages of whinging from people who expected a whole new engine, 2015 graphics, redone voices, etc., etc., etc. Some few people pointed out that it would be wonderful to revisit a terrific game  , probably the best of its genre (notwithstanding the Monkey Island titles) that has been mostly unplayable on "modern" Windows systems for a mere $15 :woot: .

Some people are never, ever satisfied.

Especially on Steam forums :><:.

Stardock May Have Linux News For Us At GDC
3 Feb 2015 at 4:05 pm UTC Likes: 1

Stardock has been in business for a long time, responsible for the practically essential Start8 for people who were unlucky enough to buy a Windows 8 PC. They've been making Windows enhancements for over a decade.

Some of their games, Gal Civ, and Sins, are pretty terrific games, and any of them (or one new one) ported to Linux is very good news.

The Witcher 2 Has A New Beta For Linux, The Improvements Are Staggering
3 Feb 2015 at 4:01 pm UTC

I was as dismayed as the next guy at the first release of VP's eON wrapper, but VP has worked diligently to improve it, to the point where the game ran very well indeed with their last patch. If they've improved it since then, HUZZAH!

An Update On The Open Source Xoreos Project For Neverwinter Nights 2
2 Feb 2015 at 2:44 pm UTC

I was, and still am a huge Neverwinter Nights (I) fan; it was for a long time the only commercial game with a Linux client that was really good. It is still one of the best, and still highly; I have called it "the most game you can get in a box." The hundreds of modules (adventures) on Neverwinter Vault give this game long, long legs.

I eagerly bought NWN 2 whe it came out, and was...disappointed. I did not like the graphics (so sue me), and the adventure included was uninspired, but so was the original NWN adventure. I did not buy the expansions, I'm afraid. There is also a raft of modules for NWN 2 on Neverwinter Vault, for what it's worth.

Now, this should not imply that I wouldn't like to give the sequel another try, especially with a Linux client.

Feral Interactive Are Teasing Another Linux Port
31 Jan 2015 at 2:03 am UTC

Quoting: Nel
Quoting: liamdawe
Quoting: PlayXMaybe one or both Battlestations games, they ported to Mac already
Notice the Mac image, the game will have to be new to Mac too.
So I guess it's probably another Total War, Rome or Medieval 2.
Hmmm..Empire:Total War is already out (one I'd already bought for Windows :'( ), so I really don't know whether that means we'll see more in the series, or if the porters are going for something else.

It's become such an embarrassment of riches that I have actually become picky  about what I buy!

Aspyr's Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remaster Is Real And It's Out, We Have Keys For You [Key hunt is over]

I'm old school; a huge Hitchcock admirer. Rear Window, North by Northwest, Strangers on a Train, etc.

My favorite amongst those has got to be Vertigo, which is still stunning, and will certainly make you think afterwards. Besides, Kim Novak didn't wear a bra :D in her scenes...

After that, it's got to be North by Northwest; one of the most iconic scenes in all cinema is Cary Grant being chased by a biplane crop duster shooting at him, in broad daylight, in a cornfield, removing the kind of threat of some dark alley from which somebody really bad will pop out with a knife. Brilliant.
