Star Traders: 4X Empires Strategy Game Now On Linux

4X games do appeal to me, as a Dominions fan (which arguably is the greatest of 4X games), and I'm looking for some other games of the genre to while away the time while I hunker down for one raging beast of a blizzard heading right my way in eastern Connecticut. :dizzy:

The only game I ever bought from Origin (if memory serves) was Dragon Age 1. A pretty good game it was, too.
BUT: I truly hated Origin's intrusiveness, which I found far more annoying than Steam, which I don't really feel is DRM-ish. (Your opinion may, in fact probably does, vary.) And DA isn't that good that I'll return to using it if I have to (and I would) use Origin.
Now, if I can run GameStop, I'd be satisfied, if only to run Kohan 2, a game I truly miss.
Not that I'm in a lather to try running it. I have hundreds of Steam games, so many that I find it necessary to (after four months without a working desktop PC :><: ) look at the store page for some games to remind me what they are  .
I cannot believe how much Linux gaming has evolved over the past seven years, since I started with Ubuntu 8.04 :woot: .

I experienced crash after crash playing the eON-wrapped Witcher 2 when released, something that had not happened when I ran it via PlayOnLinux. I was, shall we say, disgruntled :><: .
Within a month or so, a much tweaked with eON wrapper was released, and, mirabile dictu, it worked well enough that I could wander about Flotsam for a couple of hours. I also tried a new start, and all worked the way it was supposed to  . Now, the only time I run Steam for Windows is to play Skyrim and, in the same Steam client, Oblivion as well :woot: .VP also submitted the patch to GOG (owned by RedProjekt, developers of TW2, BTW) so GOG purchasers had it too.
I give major props to VP for the (probably) hard work they did to make the customers happy. Yes, we all wanted a native port. Yes, GOG's Linux releases are pretty much all wrapped with wine. Yes, Feral and Aspyr are receiving much love:wub:  from Linux users for their very good native ports.
And yes, if the use of wrappers means more really good games come out for Linux, who the fark am I to complain?

Fantastic visuals? Check. Rare in Linux? Hmmm. Off the top of my head (and I am not a morning person), how about Metro:Last Light or The Witcher 2? I admit that that's only two...maybe they are rare. No unpixelated game has dismayed me with its graphics. Yet.
Besides, for all the b*tching about how Windows games have better-looking water reflections, most graphics-intensive games look pretty identical to the Windows versions.
To me, anyway.
And, while it looks terrific, it is a shooter. I suck at shooters, suck the way Slash sucks at Guitar Hero (and he has publicized his suckage). And I haveLeft4Dead, Metro:Last Light, Painkiller:Hell and Damnation, and Borderlands2. I like to play them.
But I SUCK at them, which is why I think I have enough of them.
However: Turn-based strategy? Roguelike? Tower defense? Horror? RPG? I'm THERE.

The way to do it, as far as I'm concerned, is to do it like Arx Liberatis (which is cross-platform, BTW, since the original has some problems running on Windows these days), or OpenMW works, which require the data from Arx Fatalis, or Morrowind, respectively, without which neither will run.
There's also the way that corsix-th and openttd work, with have free data available. You get the better :S: experience, however, if you install the data files from Theme Hospital and Transport Tycoon Deluxe, respectively.

One of the first games I backed on Kickstarter (and BOY am I glad I did :D ), and it has become the current RTS champion, as far as I'm concerned. The features are still coming, and the game is already fantastic.

E:TW was one of the games I had missed from my dual-boot days, and I was quite happy :woot: to see it appear in my Linux library.

The Banner Saga RPG Looks Close To A Linux Version

Every computer today is a farking personal computer, and I devoutly wish that sellers would call Windows program sellers would quit calling Windows "PC!"
Rant over. The Banner Saga does look uniquely terrific, and appears to have deserved the awards shown in the first screen of the video.

Quoting: Guest[snip]This canard dates back to those days when you were required to pay for DOS to buy a personal computer, and, people being as joined to the hip with Micro$loth then as they are today :( , "MS-DOS" came to be synonymous with "PC." :><:
Hint I see it as a red flag when game devs call Windows "PC". That often means Linux is a low priority to the game devs when Linux computers are no longer worthy of being called personal computers despite the fact that Linux gives you the most personal choice with your computer.

Song Of The Myrne: What Lies Beneath, A Pixel Graphic RPG Adventure Now On Steam For Linux

I was playing games with blocky graphics 35 years ago, and the current craze for "retro" looking games (which I sometimes churishly attribute to developer, uh, laziness) doesn't excite me as much as it apparently does other gamers.
That being said, this looks like a game with crap graphics and deep gameplay, which it has in common with my Favorite Game, Dominions4. So... :S:
