Halfway Turn Based Strategy Released For Linux, It's Good
28 Jul 2014 at 12:56 am UTC

Turn-based tactical games like this attract me, but I (for some reason) don't do all that well in them. The story, however, does make this look interesting enough to get next payday. I'm very interested in Adventurenator: When Pigs Fly, as well. Are you going to take a look at that?

Gods Will Be Watching Now Out For Linux, And It's Hard

It's hard, all right, and is not something you'll breeze through. It's not skill-based, so it's not like, say, Limbo, but it's hard. A certain amount of b*tching could be found about its difficulty (you know, the kind of people who think Caps Lock is a passport to coolness), but that's what is good about the game.

Feral Interactive Are Teasing New Linux Games UPDATED

Hmmm...it looks as though in a year or two there will be a surfeit of games for us, to the point where we can pick and be very choosy. Unforseen by myself back in '08 when there was Neverwinter Nights and that was about it. I have Steam games I have to look at the store page to remind myself of what they look like. And Torment:Tides of Numenaria, Pillars of Eternity and Wasteland 2 are coming out sometime this year. It's sheer madness, I tell you!

And they make tar.gz as well as .deb files available. VERY nice!

Yeah, the tar.gz files shouldn't be bigger than the .deb files, should they?

A Linux Port Of Terraria Will Soon Be Looked At, Hooray
20 Jul 2014 at 12:45 pm UTC

It's always a nice surprise when I see a new game in my Steam library which I had bought in my dual-boot days. A Valley Without Wind 1+2 lately, and Mount and Blade:Warband before that:D. Now, it appears that I'll find Terraria soon! It's a fine, fine time to be a Linux gamer!

It's a wonderful thing for me that I have so many games for Linux today that I have this problem! Back when I started using Linux in '08 there was one commercial game:Neverwinter Nights. Then the Humble Bundles started, and things began to look up. Now, with Steam, there's a surfeit of riches!

Downloaded last night, but I have about five other games waiting before I give KSP another try...

GOL Asks: What Have You Been Playing Recently?
17 Jul 2014 at 3:31 pm UTC

Witcher 2: Still crashing, but after having read two of Sapkowski's Witcher books, I want to see the rest of this story!

Desktop Dungeons: Who knew a single-screen dungeon could be so unforgivable? At least, when you die, it gives you a humorously encouraging after action report. Highly recommended.

X-COM:Enemy Unknown: Touch tactical fun, and another AAA game for Linux.

ReignMaker: This is a mashup of match-3, tower defense, and city building, and pretty much unlike any other game on Steam. Tougher than you might expect, and a lot of fun.

CIV V: the best turn-based strategy game this side of Dominions 4, and AAA almost by definition. And it runs on evary distro you can think of.

A Valley Without Wind 1+2 just appeared in my library today; had bought 'em when I was still dual-booting, and haven't played the Linux versions yet.

And, Doc, Heroes Rise is a completely enjoyable experience.

X-Plane 10 Global 64bit Now On Steam For Linux
17 Jul 2014 at 3:16 pm UTC

I remember a flight simulator junkie telling me around 1998 that X-Plane was head and shoulders better than any other simulator. It's gotten better and better over time, too. Who give the $$$ to Microsoft?
