Eador. Masters of the Broken World Is Still A Sore Spot For Linux Gamers
25 Mar 2014 at 9:09 pm UTC

FWIW, several of the games I contributed to Kickstarter have already delivered Linux clients: Akaniero, War For The Overworld, Planetary Anihilation. Wasteland 2 sent me keys for the original Wasteland, and The Bard's Tale. Still waiting on the others (including Pillars of Eternity and Torment).

The Witcher 2 Massive RPG Looks Like It Will Be On Linux

Well, I found it in my Linux Steam library, having bought it for Windows some time ago. I downloaded all 16GB, but the executable has not yet been made available.

I am patient. I can wait. For a while.

It's downloading on my desktop as I type; it's 16GB:O. I am beside myself with anticipation. I'd been running it (purchased from Steam) using a PlayOnLinux script, which I've already deleted:D. This is a 4+ star game by any standard, and now it's available for Linux!:woot:

Many Linux Games To Look Forward To In 2014
1 Mar 2014 at 2:27 am UTC

Ooooh! I bought X:COM Enemy Unknown for Windows last year and it only a matter of time before it shows up in my Steam queue! Besides that, there's War For The Underworld (still in bedrock beta), Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, and Torment coming(all Kickstarted games)this year.

2013 was The Year Of Linux Gaming. 2014 is when the floodgates open.

Planetary Annihilation Major New Update With Video
23 Feb 2014 at 6:17 pm UTC

I Kickstarted this game, after reading their page, and the reputation of the designers and programmers. I do agree that the initial Steam price was $60, since the game is still (obviously) beta. If you like your RTSes fast and frantic, this is THE game for you, and a steal at its current price. It's got a pretty vicious AI, too:><:.

CD Projekt RED Considering The Witcher 3 For Linux If SteamOS Takes Off

It should be noted that Steam downloads are not .deb files, but .tar.gz files, which should work on any GNU/Linux system which has adequate video drivers. I know a lot of people love to hate on Canonical (when it is so simple to avoid Unity annoyances by simply installing a different *buntu flavour), but IMHO, Canonical has been good for the GNU/Linux world.

The Open Source Game Corner, Highlighting Some Projects
21 Feb 2014 at 5:12 pm UTC

Just wanted to put in a mention for 7KAA, which I started playing back in (I think) 1996. This game has, uh, serviceable graphics, but the gameplay is deeper than you would expect, with spies, trading, and much more strategic thinking than the usual RTS. In fact, I bought it for $5.99 on GOG.com to have a copy of the 182 page(!) manual, and also to give thanks to Enlight for releasing this game to open source.

Again, the graphics are nothing special, but there's a lot more strategizing than, say 0AD (no offense to that project intended).

A Year Ago Today Valve Released Steam For Linux
18 Feb 2014 at 8:31 pm UTC

I had expected Portal 2 by now, but I certainly have enough games on Steam to keep me busy! I predict that, in a year, we'll be counting more and more **** games for Linux.

Steam Lights The Green Light For More Linux Games
7 Feb 2014 at 4:40 am UTC

The Mims has a playable demo, and I had a lot of fun with it this afternoon. I will certainly buy it once it comes out on Steam; RTS games are few and far between for Linux, and this is at least as original a concept as the OSS game Globulation, and has some pretty spiffy graphics.

Steam's January 2014 Hardware Survey Has a Linux Drop

I got the survey yesterday; it doesn't appear to mean a whole hell of a lot, but I took it anyway.
