What have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?

Quoting: g000hQuite interested in your playing "any game you own" via GeForce NOW streaming service (e.g. The non-Linux-friendly game sellers - Epic, Ubisoft, Blizzard, Bethsaida) running in an Android Virtual Machine (with Qemu) on Linux. Would this system also allow playing Steam games that have EAC (e.g. Rust) to work without problem (other than performance)? Also, I'd be interested in a Setup Tutorial for this: I don't suppose you know of one, which is already out there on the internet? I imagine this would allow certain troublesome Steam Windows-only games to work on Linux that do not currently work with Proton.
I can't speak to the OP's Android virtual machine, but just be aware that a Chrome client allowing anyone with Chrome to play GeForce Now is coming in the near future, and that'll almost certainly open that interesting service up to Linux users...

What do you think of that title so far? Videos I've seen of gameplay have been mixed...

Linux wise, I've been playing:
Defend the Keep: A quick, fun, delightful tower defense title. It'll probably be my go to in the short term for a quick gaming fix once Rocket League goes away...

Verdun: My quick shooter of choice since it was announced Ballistic Overkill is going away (this has been a sad Linux gaming year for me so far... Can community servers work with that?)

Speaking of which, I'm sad to say I've been using my Windows drive for the first time in literally years, mostly for X-Plane, which I've been addicted to since mid-last year and which is, sadly, more enjoyable on Windows than Linux (due to many excellent add-on's in the ecosystem being Windows only). I'll probably get the occasional Rocket League fix there too...

On the totally non-gaming random side, I'm trying to go Wayland only with Manjaro KDE with my work machines. It seems the team has made so much progress that I wanted to see if I could use it as a daily driver. So far, except for Plank not working (X11 only), it's been good! Some of my Citrix based work apps even scale better in Wayland than X, so bonus...

Quoting: igimenezHi Liam! i was playing Pioneer, and really love it. It is a game very unpolished and with a lot of rough edges, but can be nice when you want something relaxing to play
Wow, Pioneer as in Frontier Elite 2? It warms my heart tremendously to know that no matter how much computing, or games, or the whole world for that matter changes, there's always Frontier out there to play to sink into and escape... Is it still being actively developed? Does it have a community?

BattlEye now say they're working with Valve to support Steam Play
16 Feb 2020 at 10:15 pm UTC

It's still a WIP... The latest I saw was in a reddit thread here [External Link]about a week ago.

About a year or so ago, someone claiming to be in the know posted somewhere that anti-cheat compatibilities are hard, and that even if everyone were going all out on this, it would "take years" to get it working and that, for all parties involved working on it, it isn't priority one, so it'll take a long while...

Well to me the performance is on par... Maybe you have a compositor issue?
I have to admit that I just realised that I haven't really played CS:GO much since switching to Manjaro a few weeks ago (was on several Ubuntu-Distros before) and now it seems fine. sorry for that!
Yeah, I had so many bizarre gaming issues in the past that now, on Manjaro and with its frequently updated kernels and drivers, just don't happen any more. Manjaro is a terrific distro for gaming...

Have we learned our lesson yet?
This has absolutely nothing to do with Wine at all... Wine was there before RL (RL always worked with it well before the port), and was there during, and now there after. It's not like they said, "Hey, guys, just do this via Proton instead..." E. P. I. C.... That's the whole story right there...

I haven't read all 8 pages of comments, but just wanted to post how sad I am about this. I have hundreds of hours in RL, and think it's maybe one of the most mechanically stellar games ever made. I was always proud that such a popular, perfect title was a first class Linux citizen, able to play with all the other platforms and updated the same day as everyone else. I always thought, "You know what, Linux gaming could end tomorrow, but at least I'll still have RL, and I could be OK..."

Steam reportedly coming to Chrome OS - Linux gaming across even more devices
17 Jan 2020 at 3:30 pm UTC

Yeah, very confusing... From the moment Chrome OS supported Linux apps, I thought Steam would have been priority 1 from the beginning, since the lack of gaming has been a big reason some people haven't invested in Chromebooks for their families. But once Stadia arrived, it was obvious why Steam wouldn't be a focus. And, for low spec Chromebooks that exist as cloud based machines without much storage, Stadia makes far more sense than a native Steam, but perhaps they are actually referring to Google working with Valve on the inevitable future Steam streaming service. Google by design or by their disorganization, while making their own services, realize that their platforms need to play well with other companies, and they haven't tried to leverage their "garden" to prevent others from entering. As an early Android fan, I wish they'd more limited their services to Google devices as a competitive tactic, but they've been focused on their services being on everything from iOS to Windows phone when it existed, so who knows?

Have a Razer laptop and use Linux? Keep a close eye on this new open source project

Quoting: CorbenWasn't it Razer who wanted to create the best Linux gaming laptop some time ago, but went completely silent on that?

Oh yeah, it was reported here on GoL...
I was thinking the exact same thing. I remember posting on those official Razer forums about that too...
