Funny. I actually tried to run the old Powerslave EX [External Link] last year, but failed. :(
Thank you for this new PCExhumed [External Link] solution. :)

The latest Black Mesa update makes it much smoother on Linux

Since you have no nostalgic reasons, I would even suggest you start with Black Mesa. You need time to play Half-Life 2 directly after that as well (or Half-Life Alyx :)).

Quoting: 95ych0I've never played any of Half Life. I hear such acclaim about it. Can I get into the series by playing Black Mesa without playing the original?Compared to the original, Black Mesa improves on the story (including the ending) and is way more beautiful (especially the final chapters).

Prepare for Half-Life: Alyx with the full and complete Beta of Half-Life recreation Black Mesa out now

What worked for me is playing Black Mesa natively from beginning to end, and only switching to Proton when heavy frame drops occur at a certain location. It keeps the save games during the switch.
This means 95% of Black Mesa beta seems playable natively. ;)

Quoting: FaalhaasFrom then on it is actually runs well natively. I still have to reach outside again to see what happens...The frame drops seem location specific, like the train scene in the beginning or certain locations in Xen.

Quoting: ThetargosAnd in the opening sequence on the tram system, right up to the part where you get to the elevator, and exit to the valley where the Helicopter is, the game turns into a slide-show (1 frame every couple of seconds, at best) and the game uses three threads, one at 100% the other two at 10% CPU max, and no GPU utilization, really weird!Had the same issues. However, after the train scene the game runs well!

Quoting: bradgyNo, it was Celeste. :) But I messed around a bit with the controller config, before I found out systemd was trolling. :DQuoting: FaalhaasThis new systemd messed me up as well. I have to do aWas one of those games Rocket League by any chance? The modprobe command didn't seem to do anything to get my steam controller working again.sudo modprobe uinputto get the Steam Controller working in-game.
Even after that, some games did not detect my buttons, so I even reinstalled the OS. Now it's working with modprobe.

The incredibly atmospheric racing platformer Distance just got even bigger
9 Sep 2019 at 9:16 pm UTC
My setup is Arch Linux with Steam Beta Client using Proton 4.11-3.
Would be great if Distance could run VR mode natively... It is a bit buggy on Proton, unlike in some obscure spyware with ads called Windows 10.
Here is the discussion [External Link] on Steam.

Quoting: Termydo you have to do anything special to get it to run in VR? I can't get it to work, neither native nor proton -.-I only got it working with Proton thus far. :S:

Quoting: EhvisI assume VR is also available in the native game. How have they implemented it for a 3rd person racer?Yes, VR is available in the native game. When you boot Distance in VR you will sit in the car [External Link].

The VR experience of Distance is also fantastic. :woot: I would recommend using a controller instead of a steering wheel though.
Haunted maze game Phantom 3D has been released

Actually gave me a mini attack. Phantom suddenly showing up. Barely snuck past it. Found an item to push it away just in time... :O
This editor is pretty awesome. You can recreate little mazes with ease, and turn them into something scary.
Luckily, I have the luxury of playing this game in a 4K resolution. :)
