Before Steam comes to Linux, literally there was nothing.Which Steam came to Linux in 2013.In these past three years Linux gaming is grown more than ever. That's not very possible to overthrow leading gaming platform Windows in just three years.
Valve leads and tries to aim developers for Vulkan now.Which is way better and promising than OpenGL and a real competitor to DirectX.With Vulkan SteamVR is gonna be available for Linux.
GOG didn't give a shit about Linux. For example;Witcher 1 and Witcher Adventure game has Windows+Mac support but there is no sign of Linux versions of them.
For me;buying from GOG just pointless. You will be buying from a shop that wishes you to disappear from his shop, never to return.

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Valve didn't abandon the Linux community, actually at last two months they're very interested with Linux. In your opinion in my opinion he deliberately avoided linux questions because he did not want to answer them because he knew the answers would not go down well. Also I should of said not completely abandonded Linux but for me people white knight valve for basically no reason of course they fixed the client its how they make money.[/quote]What you except him to say?
Valve assigned developers to focus on Amd Mesa drivers. You can find it on GoL.One for the gathering list of games which didn't work or works broken with Amd Mesa drivers and start to fix them, the other one is they hired another developer for Amd Mesa which this developer works previously on Nvidia open source drivers.
They already did major updates Linux Steam Client and also they provided latest graphics cards compability for SteamOS recently.
Gabe Newell didn't answer any questions about Linux/SteamOS at AMA because there was so many questions(nearly 1500),which most upvoted queetions generally answered.Since most of the people don't know anything about Linux,Linux related questions couldn't get so many upvotes.
Of course if a game comes with triple platform support,GoG will sell it.Since developer make it compatible, why don't sell this to other platforms?

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Valve didn't abandon the Linux community, actually at last two months they're very interested with Linux.Quoting: MintedGamerI checked around I can't find any news stories of them saying they are giving up they have three new linux games this week. I know they abandoned Linux port of Witcher 3. Valve on the other hand have fired over half of their Linux support team hopefully they are not changing focus but they have form they abandoned Steam machines and throw vague resources at Steam OS. Gabe Newell completely ignored any and all questions about Linux in his AMA.Quoting: Whitewolfe80I think Witcher3 is highly unlikely. They announced that they're done with Witcher3 and get fully focused on Cyberpunk 2077.They're also abandoned Linux GOG client project.Which is why i buy my Linux games from Steam only. There are some people who said 'I buy my Linux games from GOG because it's drm free.'Well, they completely abandon and dislike Linux community. Why should i buy from them, instead of Valve?I agree, Valve has really pushed Linux gaming forward in the last few years, while GOG has completely ignored Linux. It feels like I've been waiting an eternity for the GOG Linux client, and its still one of their highest rated feature requests. Therefore I don't buy any games on GOG and get them on Steam instead.

Quoting: M@yeulCI am really puzzled by all the PRO driver users. As far as I know, it has been stated before (I didn't bother to find a reference from an AMD developer, as I am writing this on my phone) that it is useful only if:Mostly a habit from Windows days.Hardware manufacturer does the drivers, that's it.
- you need OpenCL (clover is slower, and has no support for OpenCL 2.1)
- you need an OpenGL compatibility profile (professional CAD tools often do)
- you need a driver that has been validated against a certain piece of software (or OpenGL 4.5 certified with conformance tests)
- you need Vulkan support (although it has been said many times that this part would be opened, and radv looks like a viable alternative)
- arguably, if you have abysmal performance with one of your games or applications.
In most other cases, you would be better with the FLOSS driver.
So, what's your special use case? I suspect for instance that @Vandenplas might require OpenCL to use it with blender.

Quoting: monsieursauceIt means Vulkan is using by big studios and Bethesda has a version with Vulkan already.Just Feral or Aspyr needed to publish it with Linux support.Quoting: LeopardDoes it mean the Switch can be an incentive to develop Linux ports?Quoting: sigzFeral already said multiple times in the IRC chan that skyrim would be too complex to port.Did you know that Bethesda already ported it for Nintendo Switch, which use Vulkan?

About Skyrim.I'm way more hopeful about it.Because Skyrim is heading for Nintendo Switch, which use Vulkan.Of course Bethesda won't publish it directly, because in that case they must provide support for Linux version too.Bethesda won't desire that, they're already so slow at Windows support side already. But Feral or Aspyr can simply buy license for it and make it happen on Linux.

The next comments are talking about big, popular games, rather than my expectations for the Feral port...I agree. If Witcher 3 and Skyrim:SE comes to Linux, there will be a massive interest.
If one of the companies who has released big, popular titles, maybe titles getting on a bit, but still incredibly popular, to Linux then there would be a decent amount of profit to be made.
For me, two of the biggest absent titles are: "Witcher 3" (CDPR) and "Elder Scrolls Skyrim" (Bethesda). It's my opinion that if either of those titles were released to Linux, millions of pounds could be made from the relatively small market share of Linux gamers.
One of the other big big titles, namely "Civilization 6" is already in the works being ported and expected any day now. (The same was true of "Civilization 5" - It is/was massively popular with Windows gamers, it had a Linux port, and a big wad of money was generated from happy Linux users.)
For example;my brothers Steam library is in share with my account and he has Skyrim Se.In this case,(even i had chance to play it from my bros account)i would purchase it again to support.
