A look at how Steam Play is doing, based on the ProtonDB reports from July

Quoting: ShmerlThat's a huge proportion of AMD GPUs and CPUs in those reports. Different ratio than in GOL stats.
That is for hw combination of reporters of that particular month.

That rise is only related to ACO buzz. They rushed to test many games with ACO and they had many things to report.

Quoting: appetrosyanIs there a Linux native game that uses Vulkan? I wonder if all the wins are due to OpenGL being bad, or because of something else...
Yes. Lately pretty much all Feral ports are on Vulkan. An excellent example on that is Rise of The Tomb Raider.

That is nearly on par with Windows version at performance terms.
I guess you meant the Windows version of RotTR on Windows is nearly on pair with the native Linux version, right? :)

From what I know the native Linux version performs a lot better than the Windows version on Linux using DXVK. Which is kind of expected (and not meant as criticism towards DXVK) considering both are targeting Vulkan and the nature of how DXVK works vs the possibilities Feral has when porting a game.
Yes. I meant Feral port of this game on Linux performs nearly same as Windows version running on Windows. Windows vs Linux basically.

This guy did some comparision on this game with Aco + Feral port vs Windows DX12 renderer.

And famously on The Talos Principle Croteam took out the OpenGL renderer in favour of the Vulkan one the moment that it was feasible to do so.
Legacy branch still have OGL for people with non VLK hardware.

Steam's top releases of May show why Steam Play is needed for Linux

Quoting: GuestUh no, the AAA games we have on Linux were not for charity or good will, we have proof that the work done releasing for and supporting Linux was compensated for.
Fact is if Linux was profitable for triple A and indie AAA (as Ninja Theory calls it), then we would see more than two AAA games for Linux at E3. One of them, the Borderlands DLC isn't even confirmed, I just included it just because Liam implied it would come because of Aspyr. So tell me again if Linux is profitable:
where is Ashes of Singularity. It's been two years. Where is Doom 2016? The port is basically done. Do you really believe those in charge of Doom would not port it to Linux if they could make more money?
Just because Linux has AAA games it does not prove that it's sustainable business as a whole. The sooner you realize that the sooner Linux gaming will be better because of it.
Quoting: Purple Library GuyThe rest of what he said is pretty frightening though. He seems quite definite that Linux gaming is shrinking over time. This over a time period when on a technical level, near as I can figure out Linux has been significantly improving as a gaming platform.
We may need Proton, and Stadia I guess, more than I thought.
It seems quite evident to me. With some exceptions and indies Linux isn't profitable.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI'd certainly love to see that Windows 7--> Linux migration scenario materialize. But I've seen a couple of other "This MS screw-up should drive people our way" events that never worked out, so I dunno. Time will tell.
I think for that to be effective couple things needs to be in order: anti cheat (EAC and BattleEye), even more driver improvements and gamers on Linux doing free ad campaign for Linux.
About Doom 2016: id Software was releasing unofficial Linux binaries until Bethesda/Zenimax acquired them. Thing is ; SteamPlay showed that maybe the most important case here is using a native graphics api exists on Linux. Wine can cover other needs. I bought Doom on this Grand Prix Sale and it works awesome. So really nothing changed. You were not getting support from id for unofficial binaries , same with SteamPlay case.

Ashes of Singularity: They're working on Linux port.Iirc , they have no experience on Linux at all. So it is very normal it takes time.

Valve looking to drop support for Ubuntu 19.10 and up due to Canonical's 32bit decision (updated)
22 Jun 2019 at 9:19 am UTC Likes: 5

Quoting: TheSHEEEPToo bad, really. I doubt Canonical will stick with their decision, since Valve not moving away from 32bit pretty much guarantees most gamers won't use newer Ubuntus any more.
Seems like we will have to drag along the 32bit legacy even longer. *sigh*
I don't understand that comment , really.

You're implying that is a bad decision but then also saying 32 bit legacy will stick on even longer.

When i look at your profile , it says you're dualbooting with Windows. So you also want MS to kill 32 bit support which will end miserably like Ubuntu's proposal, same games are also 32 bit on that side? Or just asking it on Linux side? Don't you have any 32 bit games?

Killing 32 bit compat is not something MS will do like Canonical does ; without a solution at all.

PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 has a new report out, over 40% of listed games now "Playable"
17 Jun 2019 at 10:37 am UTC

Quoting: BeamboomOk, so how does this work exactly? Do you need a bluray-drive in yor PC and then your PS3-games are firef up from the drive like a PS3, or is anything special needed to be done to transfer the game to the hard-drive?
Either dumping game discs via one of the listed BD drivers at quickstart guide or dumping games from your own cfw'ed PS3.

Humble are doing another 2K Build Your Own Bundle Sale, a good chance to catch some cheap games

Quoting: ShmerlFor the reference, GOG version of Bioshock Infinite doesn't work in stock Wine, but works in Wine staging (you also need xact override, since staging builds disable faudio).
But Humble gives a Steam key , not a GOG one. Stating that in here just pointless imo.
