Valve announces new networking APIs for developers and Steam Link Anywhere
14 Mar 2019 at 6:51 pm UTC Likes: 3

Quoting: ShmerlSounds like another lock-in. I've seen at least one developer saying they'll stop updating their game on itch.io, because they want to add multiplayer, and since it needs NAT traversal, they decided to rely on Steam's service for it. Which means they can't use it with versions released in other stores... (It's also a clear example how the lack of IPv6 is causing harm).

So I don't see this as a good thing at all. Proper network services should not be tied to stores and developers should be able to use them no matter where they release. I suppose those don't need to be free, but tying them to a specific store is simply wrong.
Tell that to GOG before bashing Steam fam ?

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is the new FPS from 3D Realms, coming to Linux this Summer

From FAQ page on Steam:

Which platforms will WRATH release on?
WRATH will be playable on PC this Summer, while the full version will release on PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch, early 2020
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1000410/discussions/0/1835685838066712893/ [External Link]

This indicates Linux will get builds on early 2020. Not this summer.

Quoting: ShmerlMost of the complaints about "GOG not supporting Linux" come from Steam users who think Linux support = updater client. GOG do support Linux by selling Linux games. Most of the Linux GOG users don't care about the client, let alone closed source one.

Problem isn't the client, but lack of some games caused by not supporting Galaxy infrastructure for Linux. But those who aren't using GOG (Steam only users) rarely get that, since... they aren't using GOG ;)

Being constrained with resources, I'm not surprised they aren't prioritizing Galaxy much. I get an impression that they tried to bite more than they could swallow with their current Galaxy effort. They should have started with something minimal (just updater) like itch.io. And once that was solid, move to more features and so on.

Anyway, it's sad that GOG seem to be struggling with being profitable. Hopefully they'll figure a way to get into the positive again.
Omg Shmerl , you're setting new lows every day when it is about GOG my dear Polish friend.

Things is :

Valve's Linux support : Client , games , developers, funding projects that you also use ( DXVK , working with CodeWeavers) with GOG games , drivers ( if it wasn't Valve no one would see Nvidia was fixing DXVK related problems or their RADV efforts ) etc. A veeery long list.

GOG's Linux support : Selling Linux compatible games , lack of client , port of Witcher 2

Now , i'm not expecting same kind of benefits that Valve gave us due to their scopes etc.

But saying Linux support = client updates , is just either being ignorant or trying to fool people.

Stop that.

Let people to praise Valve , which i do almost every time because they deserve it.

The Talos Principle has a new beta with an upgraded Serious Engine, removes OpenGL in favour of Vulkan

Quoting: GuestHm, without Vulkan it's not possible to play it any longer on Optimus Hardware, as far as I know Bumblebee dose not support Vulkan.
Or do I miss something?

Have and old Intel i5-3230M with and GT 730M (not my main gaming machine) and if I run vulkaninfo it tells me that Vulkan support is incomplete.
Regardless of if I run the command with or with out optirun or primusrun.
I have an Optimus laptop ( GTX 1050) and i can play all Vulkan games.

With Proton ; that is basically useless , at least for my use case.

Unique steampunk survival game Volcanoids has erupted into Early Access

I was an alpha tester as well and i must say ; devs are really listening feedbacks. Last build crashed in Vulkan for me but OGL version was fine. I guess that is an Unity issue.

Game really improved on performance terms. I wish them good luck.

Talking point: What are you playing this weekend?

Witcher 3 ( SteamPlay ) , ETS2 and Talos Principle ( both native ).

As it is, Lutris is almost as useless to me as that Windows-only equivalent (forgot the name).
While I get your reasoning (and like cross platform apps as well), this has to be the first criticism I've seen in the Linux world aimed at an app for being a Linux exclusive. Wow!
Nobody is going to try out or switch to Linux because of a piece of software, especially not if there are already better alternatives on Windows (afaik, Playnite has more integrations). It doesn't help in making Linux more ... palatable.

Plus, catering to a rather small audience from the get-go seems like a very weird decision.
I get why devs would make Windows exclusives, I really do not get why devs would make Linux exclusives.
Because nobody need Lutris on Windows.

Does it ring a bell?

Your reasoning/ bashing here is just absurd.

vkQuake2, the project adding Vulkan support to Quake 2 now supports Linux

Quoting: fagnerlnSomeone knows if Quake IV have a open source project like this? I only find for doom 3...
No. After John Carmack left id Software and id Software bought by Zenimax/ Bethesda ; releasing open source engines to the wild has ended.

Though that being said , id Software still have some John Carmack culture going on without violating Zenimax's rules/ approaches.

1-) They have gone with full Vulkan , just like they did before with OGL.

2-) Some id Software devs are just done Vulkan work on their free time , with games Quake 1 and Doom 3.

Axel Gneiting - Quake 1
Dustin H. Land - Doom 3
