it specifically mentions not to use the open source Nouveau driver for NVIDIA GPUs
That shows they actually tested it , rather than setting up a VM.
... How so? A VM can run Noveau too...
In a VM you don't need to deal with drivers. Just set up VM and boot the game in VM to see if at least game boots.

Many devs does that.

So that shows they also got curious how it performs as well and learned Nouveau is bad for performance.

Quoting: jardonWhy do so many people want ports of games that already work in proton? I mean I understand you all want native ports, but why not target games that dont already work in proton as to expand the Linux game catalog? I mean is it really worth getting hairworks to work in the Witcher 3 to request it?

I'm just interested in your perspective. This isnt meant to be hostile, but meant as an open, friendly discussion.
Hairworks in Witcher 3 is working.

You need a Transform Feedback extension compatible driver , that's all.

On Nvidia : 396.54.09 ( Still not on in 4xx series ).
For AMD: Mesa git

Going by your PC info, you have a AMD GCN 1.0 GPU, in which case this should have been fixed by the game update last week. Do you still see it on the latest version?
A quick question: Did you shelved Vulkan renderer in Hitman forever or it is an ongoing thing but not high on priority list?

Feral, there are more Brands than Intel who build good CPUs!
Wow , do you seriously think that game won't work on AMD?

Quoting: ShmerlWhatever solution it was, it remains weird, because developers didn't explain it.
Yet you entitled it with "Another Steam exclusive attitude it seems"

Valve is not the enemy of GOG , you can't blame Valve for GOG's tweets or other business decisions

Quoting: hummer010I'm with Shmerl on this one. Why would any developer bother to promise updates, but remove the game for sale?? There going to continue with the hard work (updates), and miss out on any possible sales.

It will be very, very interesting to see what happens at GOG when these promised updates are released.

As a guy who owns the game on GOG, I'm at least a little bit concerned.
Simple.
Let's take from POV of devs at Hinterland.

Clearly they didn't like something about being on GOG ( could be anything) and they don't want to sell that game through GOG anymore and provide GOG their cut. Also they don't want to left GOG users who have bought the game without support.

Simple and effective solution.

Linux gamers shouldn't need to do this all the time,
Correction : Mesa users on Arch based distros shouldn't need to do this all time.

That game worked always for Nvidia users on Arch or any other distros. Also worked for Mesa users on Ubuntu too.

Quoting: ShmerlLooks like the last available version from GOG is finally working and not hanging on start anymore! That's some progress. I can finally play the game.

It's a shame developers have pulled the game from GOG altogether for new buyers. Another Steam exclusive attitude it seems.
Such an assumption you've made there.
