Inner Chains, yet another Kickstarted title to delay Linux support
10 Apr 2017 at 1:31 pm UTC Likes: 1

Wow , yet another " burn the witch " title

First of all , i couldn't see anything that leads people to thinking "first day Linux release" at their Kickstarter page. It only says Linux support

Second ; if you promised a Linux version that "back in our heads" term is wrong. Keep your promise

Third; that kind of toxic approaches won't help. In fact , if you keep "No Tux , no bux " approach you won't mind that Kickstarter things.

Quoting: UltraVioletI guess if I'm using a legacy AMD GPU I have to use the open source drivers on Mint 18 and still can't use Steam ?
The open source AMD drivers won't stop you from running Steam and games, but your legacy GPU might.
Quoting: LeopardNo, you can run Steam with open source drivers.
on Mint 17 everything was fine, now on Mint 18 i get the 'bootstrap' error when trying to load up Steam because its looking for the proprietary drivers and Mint 18 doesn't have them. i realize its just a matter of removing some legacy code from Steam, but, not being great at this kind of thing last time i tried it i didn't have much luck
I'm using with open source ones. Steam Client is not looking for prop drivers. Is there any chance you tried the fglrx drivers by mistake? Because this fglrx drivers are not supported on Mint 18,Ubuntu 16.04. They're supporting Mint 17 , Ubuntu 14.04.

sudo apt-get purge steam

Remove Steam with this command. Go to the Steam page on your browser , install .deb Steam by just clicking.

Quoting: ValamirCleaverI am unable to get the client to work on Ubuntu 17.10 64-bit. I just get a black rectangle in the middle of my screen and I need to use System Monitor to kill. There's no Linux troubleshooting advice on the Client FAQ page. Their Linux support is very noticeably lacking in comparison to GOG.
Wait , what? Gog is not even trying to release a Linux client.

Gog point of view to Linux is ; potential Dos box games buyers

Mac doesn't have Vulkan. Also they won't put technical improvements on the radar. Just new releases.

Quoting: LeopardYou can get latest Mesa updates with this ppa on Mint/Ubuntu. I'm on Mesa 17.0.3 right now and i'm using stable ones.

This is the bleeding edge one.

I might give those a try, a few months ago the OIBAF PPA didn't work, nothing appeared in the Driver manager :/ only the Pro would actually install.. however the pro doesnt work with Mint Cinnamon ( or at least it didn't a few months ago ) so i had to migrate the desktop to MATE.
I'm using Mint Cinnamon as well. You need to turn on visible fourth level updates of update manager. That is closed by default.
