Mad Max meets Vulkan in a new fully public beta for Linux, benchmarks and OpenGL vs Vulkan comparisons

If this is real;this is literally speed hacking and this means Vulkan update changed nothing at all.
We need explanations.

Quoting: GuestBTW it looks like it’s not only a framerate problem, but that the clock in the game is running more or less slowly. It’s easy to see looking at the dust movements in the air. What?!

Quoting: ZeloxIm excited to see start citizen now. Cause I think we really can see vulkan vs dx12 there. You can't see Dx12 vs Vulkan at Star Citizen because they're going full with Vulkan and eventually drop their Dx11 support since Windows 7,8,10 and Linux have support for Vulkan.
If vulkan performe better, I can see that as a possble reason for windows users to ditch windows and go to linux.
And maybe dev teams can see the value better in using vulkan. But I got no doubt they are already mutch better informed then atleast me :P.

Quoting: TheRiddickI'd say Feral has been working on a Vulkan wrapper pretty well, otherwise we would have seen this on Windows already (normally such a thing comes out first). The reason we're not seeing this on Windows is simple: That is Feral's exclusive work for Linux , main developer is not involved. Windows version will remain as it is.
I thought it ran pretty decent at 4k on my 980ti before, so this will be awesome. But honestly the game that needs Vulkan the most atm is Deus Ex, I have been holding out buying that until news of better performance hits! heres hoping..

Quoting: sarmadI am guessing the bigger part of the performance boost is coming from the OpenGL version not being as optimized as it should. There is no way Vulkan (or any API for that matter) can make this much difference. However, this is probably an indication that it's easier to optimize the code under Vulkan than it is under OpenGL, which by itself is enough reason to introduce Vulkan. Good job Feral, and Khronos too.Your guess is wrong.

Quoting: EgonautYes and you can't convince people to migrate Linux when game performances are mostly bad compared to Windows.Quoting: Purple Library GuySo, lots of people wanting to see this game or that game that were already ported to Linux in turn get ported to Vulkan for performance. For me, this is more a proof of concept; it demonstrates that it will be very good if future ports go to Vulkan rather than OpenGL. Generally I'd rather see Feral's energies go to new ports rather than makeovers for old ports.I disagree a lot here. Yes it's great to see new games out but I want to have good performance in already released games too.
I've had a lot of performance problems with Mad Max and other Feral ports. It's great to be able to play it now with decent performance. I would really like to see Vulkan in other already released Feral ports too, even I doubt we will see much of it.

Quoting: g000hWell, I still have Mad Max installed and go back to it for little sessions here and there. Really looking forward to giving the Vulkan Beta a try. As mentioned earlier in other comments, my CPU is holding back my OpenGL performance (AMD FX, not Intel) so Vulkan's multi-threaded boost should be very welcome.I think at 4k resulotion your gain will be less than 1080p,because as the resolution goes up games become more gpu loaded and gpu bound.
For me, the next game that Feral could improve with Vulkan support is "Hitman". That game wasn't performing sufficiently well for me to play at 4K, but with a Vulkan boost I think it probably will be. Also, I've only played a few hours of Hitman so far (Lots left to do.)

MESA (RADV/ANV)
Requires latest Mesa 17.1-dev (as of this post) compiled with Vulkan support. On Ubuntu this can be installed using the Padoka ppa found at https://launchpad.net/~paulo-miguel-di [External Link]…/+archive/ubuntu/mesa. INTEL ANV requires Broadwell or Skylake, but Haswell is currently unsupported.
You need 17.1. You can get it by unstable branch, link is below.

Quoting: KohriasUnfortunately it freezes my system. I run a Radeon RX 480 with Mesa 17.0.2, llvm 4.0 and Linux 4.9.This is from their announcement:
Is radv not supported yet or do I need to compile the latest mesa git?
