Quoting: liamdaweTo the people apparently glossing over the article, do note I specifically said this:It will be only reasonable if there was a donational buy option.I suggest that;VP need to sell Steam key for this under their page or store if there is users who want justify their work.
Quoting: meEven something simple like an upgrade option, that way we can still ensure the porter directly gets their due cut of the money for their work.I'm not specifically advocating for paying twice if you already own it, the point is to have the ability to pay something, if the developer/publisher so chooses.
But this inside Steam; Os differ sale will only hurt Linux.

Is this kind of thing becomes a standart,if will be helpful to Linux community or not?
In my opinion it will stop all possible users who wants to switch from Windows.
What do you think,is this thing can be described as a nonsense or not?

Quoting: michaI have too many games that I want to play but cannot play due to time reason. As a result I only support practices I like (to succeed). Meaning I don't but these games at all. Similar, I only buy games with Linux versions. And only full price only if it's a day-1 release (or at the very least never has been discounted before).Hi.As you are a game dev i want to ask you a simple question, which some people here are seems to more thick skulled than i think.
Ofc there might be exceptions if you really want to play but I try to stick with these rules as much as possible.

I can't believe that comments section. You guys are so into that pay twice thing;if that becomes a standart it will be the same with Apple's lockdown.
And this thing is negative for who willing to switch Linux.Wine is already so hurtful for Linux gaming this will do things even worse.
Yesterday Liam warned me about my comments.I said fanatic to an user. But fanatic was not justifying it.
Literally, some said at top zealots which is so true.
C'mon, you're so away from gaming; you started to approve companies or developers greedy moves.
Steam should be a game store, not a platform store.

That is reasonable but i hope this approach won't be a tradition about other releases. That is against to platform freedom.
Most of the people came to Linux from Windows platform, including me.If people had to pay again their owned games again, that will change their minds. No one wants to pay twice.
If we need more users on platform (which obviously we need),that is a dangerous move if this turn into a normal thing.

The awesome looking FPS 'STRAFE' has been delayed, with no set Linux release date now

Or getting some crazy fps drops on Mad Max and try to behave like 'that is normal'
No,thanks.I will pass.

Quoting: Luke_NukemLike even barely getting 30 fps from Civilization VI and try to be happy about it?With so powerful specsQuoting: LeopardSo, arbitrary rules that *you* made up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Quoting: Luke_NukemIf you don't mind, please look at the message i explained my real gaming termsQuoting: LeopardWait.... Real gaming?Quoting: TuxeeIf you want to do real gaming, you will need to use other platforms besides Linux. If you don't think so,ask Liam.Who also uses a console for real gaming.Quoting: LeopardYep,if this user share won't change i'm afraid eventually we will migrate to Windows again.Good riddance. I suppose people (like me) use Linux based operating systems not only because of a certain market share on Steam.
Yeah, fanatics like you always exist so i'm not surprised.
Are you implying that the games I play on Linux aren't *real* games?
If you want to do real Linux gaming, you need to use other hardware, like a Core i5, or i7, or even a new Ryzen, and you definitely need to run an Nvidia card.
See how that works?

First of all;if porting is not a problem then why do we get lower fps on mostly any Linux released title?Same hardware but less fps, even some games that critically goes to unplayable zone.
Second;Windows needed to wait for GTA5.But is it came as exact same visuals on Windows or is it beat the console versions by enhanced graphics? Maybe you didn't notice but we're waiting for only ports, not even improved versions.
Third;you know what it means. It means you don't need to worry about fps, which api used, you don't need to wonder about if this game will come to Linux or not.It is a certainty, why you should wonder?
I'm not a troll, even if i was a troll why should care it?Even the Linux is a threat to Windows gaming or other platforms? Why should i be a member of this site in first place? But you're the bad eggs (if you wouldn't call me as a troll i wouldn't define you but you forced me) because you're just ignoring the facts and normalize them. If you and all other users continue to normalize that performance issues than they don't even bother to make it good. They will say ; 'ahh,Linux guys. They used to get lower performance'.

Quoting: fbtPfff,i guess this needs to be answered. And when you once get into that circle you realized you're not so into gaming after all.Because you're trying to keep up with possible ports, api's,Wine like solutions. That is not 'real' gaming if you ask me. When all games served at your feet and you don't have to worry about api, quality of port etc.I've been gaming on linux exclusively since around 2007. You are talking shit. Port problems (although usually not game-breaking) are common on all patforms. Porting games after the fact is hard, especially when you're an overconfident overpaid AAA developer worth exactly shit and nothing more. CoD ports, anyone? Arkham Knight? Japanese games are notoriously bad when it comes to PC ports. There's also a number of console ports that pretty much require you to own a gamepad, but some won't even tell you that before the purchase. Ports are hard.
EDIT: Oh and you had to wait more than a year, IIRC, for GTAV. WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW.
Console ports get delayed a lot.
gaming starts to matter moreThe fuck does that mean. Are you just flinging important-sounding phrases/words at people? It doesn't work. That doesn't make any sense.
Just my thoughts,i'm not intend to offend anyone.Well now I know you're just a shill and/or troll.

Quoting: SamsaiThis "OH NOES, STEAM SURVEY SAYS LINUX PERCENTAGE IS DROPPING, DOOM AND GLOOM NOW!" stuff sure is entertaining. You're right ,it is not entertaining but that is a fact and one of logical reasons about this lack of some games and cancelled ports or Linux version promised but cancelled Kickstarter games.
