You may want to avoid Linux Kernel 5.9 if you want fully supported NVIDIA drivers

It will go on somehow I hope. Nevertheless, I will probably slowly switch to AMD. But we (family and friends) still use NVIDIA cards in many systems. NVIDIA cards age quite well as I have noticed. My now already somewhat aged GTX 970 still runs great, especially with Proton. I recently enjoyed the first part of Sega's Yakuza series. On ultra settings the GTX 970 does not even reach 50% utilization.

Amazon announces 'Luna', their own take on cloud game streaming

QuoteHow long until Valve throw their Steam Controller onto the sofa and announce their own? If they don't, they might end up as one of the only major gaming stores not to at this rate. The cloud game streaming wars have truly begun now. How do you feel about it?

Valve is much smaller than Amazon, Google and Microsoft. Valve is basically a family business. Okay a pretty big one but just small compared to a company like Amazon. Amazon has almost unlimited computing power. Valve can't build something like that even if they wanted to.

But I think that Valve is on the right track with SteamOS. Maybe some day SteamOS will run in Amazon data centers and you can stream your Steam library over it. For Amazon this would be just a business.

I would also like to know what kind of infrastructure Amazon has behind it. Do they use Linux and Vulkan like Google? Or do they actually run a Windows cluster for the games? Or both?

I hope they will offer a new version of the Steam Controller some day. It is still my favorite controller to this day. I'm so used to it. Perfect for Hollow Knight.

CSGO I play with mouse and keyboard.

Steam Cloud Gaming confirmed with Steam Cloud Play

Quoting: Liam DaweBefore you get too excited though, the documents say the first service connecting with it will be NVIDIA GeForce NOW. For Linux gamers then, it means next to nothing since NVIDIA have been silent on any plans for Linux support with it.

I can't really imagine Steam simply launching the Geforce Now Executable. Geforce Now will provide an API that Steam will use. The streaming frontend has to run through the Steam client, otherwise it won't integrate properly and will only cause problems. Why would anyone use that, when you can also start the Geforce Now directly?

11 years later Minecraft sells over 200 million copies

I do not fully understand the strategy of Microsoft. We are currently stuck with the 12.2 version. There the number of available mods is the largest.

The mods have made Minecraft great. But Mojang and Microsoft have been very half-hearted in supporting it, if at all.

The Bedrock version and others are not compatible with the original Java-Client Mods and and therefore do not play a role on Youtube and Twitch. Raytracing is very nice, but after a few hours you get tired of it and the Sildur Shader and Optifine do as well.

Microsoft has allowed Amazon to take over the Curse Client. So Amazon became the main hub for Minecraft Mods. How crazy is that? You just leave the most important aspect of your own game to your competitors, because you just not interested in it.

Microsoft has adopted a few mods. For example Computercraft for their Edu version. But much more powerful mods like Open Computers are ignored by MS and Mojang. Although Open Computers with its persistent machines fits much better into the Minecraft world.

Overall Minecraft could be much more successful if Microsoft would involve the community more. Running a modded server is an uphill battle to this day. At the same time one of the best gaming experiences you can have.

Valve detail more changes planned for Artifact 2.0
14 April 2020 at 1:35 pm UTC Likes: 2

I have over 1000h Artifact playtime. Quite immodestly I say that I can judge it to some extent.

Of course some players didn't like some gameplay elements of 1.0. But the current changes will also not be appreciated by all players.

The reason for the failure was the monitarisation. Paying $20 for a game, only to have a hull in which you have to invest more and more. With a card market that is more like stock trading, plus buyable tickets just for playing. That just scared people off even if they had bought the game before. They were all the more annoyed afterwards.

Without the free Draft the Artifacts player base would probably have dropped to zero.

You quickly get used to the game mechanics once you really start playing the game (with all cards). This is especially true for the RNG elements, which are never decisive for experienced players and free the player from micro-management. But most people never got that far into the game.

The current changes eliminate the scapegoat RNG, but at the price of micro-management. I don't know if I can play such a game again for 1000 hours.

Quoting: legluondunetHow does it work on Linux? You plug it and it just works or you have to tweak?
Could you make different profiles on Linux for each game?

Of course. Most of the time you don't want to change anything and if you do, it's super easy.

I should have about 500h in all kinds of games with it. Including Hollow Knight and Rocket League.

It is a pity that the controller is not manufactured any more. The prices on Amazon are already alarmingly high. :'(

When you have played with the controller as long as I have, it is difficult to retrain your muscle memory. Especially with games like Hollow Knight. By using the grip buttons you can play in a way that you often grasp around the controller and also use your small and middle finger. This way I don't get a hand ache so fast when I play hardcore controller games like Hollow Knight.

Valve's card game Artifact is still being worked on for a big revamp

Quoting: salamanderrakeIf they keep this stupid three lane gimmick BS in Artifact 2, it will just up and die again.

It's the best part of the whole game. I haven't been able to play any other card games since Artifact, because they have simply become boring.

Despite the somewhat awkward monitarization, it is by far my favorite card game. But I don't know if I still feel like playing it after over 1000h. Especially if it's simplified now (without having to calculate the RNG etc.).

Actually, I just need a second set to bring some more movement into the meta.
