DXVK-NVAPI 0.6.4 out now expanding HDR support

QuoteIt's worth noting and clarifying here for those confused: the HDR support noted is only for legacy NVAPI, as mentioned by developer Joshua-Ashton (who works on DXVK and VKD3D-Proton) on X:
Thanks a lot for doing research and providing context about how to position the HDR note. Much better than just blindly rewording the release notes! ;)

Sad news :( But it is a good decision to prioritize health. All the best wishes to the team!

Proton Experimental fixes Street Fighter 6 and disables NVAPI for Rachet & Clank
12 August 2023 at 7:14 pm UTC

Quoting: TheRiddickI didn't think Rachet and Clank even touched anything from NVAPI, did they start using it on the PC release for some reason?

The game has all kinds of NVIDIA tech, DLSS 2 & 3, Reflex etc. NVAPI is a requirement for DLSS 2 on Linux.
Unfortunately something broke with a game update. The game crashes now when NVAPI is visible and an NVIDIA GPU is used. Some smart people already looked into it, but nothing obvious came up. It's also perfectly possible that the crash isn't even related to DXVK-NVAPI, but rather something changed when the game wants to initialize NVIDIA specific things (which it tries only when NVAPI has been initialized successfully).

Perfectly sensible decision to update Proton Experimental for this game.

Quoting: jensAls far as I remember, there were four elephants between the giant turtle and the disc :)
But what about The Fifth Elephant?

That was a Bruce Willis thing, right?

Close :), see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fifth_Elephant
(Assuming that this was indeed where Purple Library Guy was referring too)

Edit: Damn I’m slow, just getting now that you were actually joking and referring to the fifth element :)

X-Plane 12 now uses the open source Zink driver to help Plugins

About X-Plane 12, does someone knows if VR (with Valve Index) works on Linux with the Linux (non-proton) version? X-Plane 11 actually worked, albeit quite slowly as far as I remember.

NVIDIA puts out Security Bulletin for various driver issues

Yeah, my personal preference is still to always enable the firewall (also in a home setup) and I still recommend to do so, but I guess it is no longer a sin to not do so.

Quoting: TerracePop really has it turned off by default, and is the default setting of the distro, it's not me honest!

No worries, I'm not doubting your honesty :)

Reading a bit on the subject, Ubuntu seems to do the same, ufw is installed, but not active because there are no open ports by default. So apparently I'm slightly out-of-date on this subject, so apologize for my strong wording.
That said, Fedora e.g. has firewalld activated by default so it's not that black and white.
