I'm curious about the steam play vs wine usage :)
PS: The summary of my pc info as displayed in the OP does not yet seem to include the steam play question.

Some thoughts on Linux gaming in 2018, an end of year review
20 Dec 2018 at 7:48 am UTC

Nice summary, thank you. My gaming highlights this year are:
- Rise of the Tomb Raider (was also my most anticipated game for 2018)
- GTA5 (SteamPlay)
- Dark Souls 3 (SteamPlay, still at 1/4 or something like this, not sure if I will ever get past the Abyss Watchers ;))
- Civilization VI
- Life is Strange BtS (though hadn't found much time yet, I'm still at the beginning)
- Assetto Corsa Competizione (SteamPlay)

SteamPlay certainly is a game changer for me. I really hope that linux gamers will get much more visibility. Thus please people: Lets make Linux count and use SteamPlay/Proton at least for the first 2 weeks after purchasing a title!

My most anticipated game for 2019: Shadow of the Tomb Raider

VK9, the project that aims to support Direct3D 9 over Vulkan has hit another milestone

This project can give Proton the proper retro compatibility/performance for heavy weight DX9 games.
Are there any heavy weight DX9 games?
There are a ton of them. It was the de facto API before DX11, but the biggest one that comes to mind is the original Skyrim.
I have never played that game, is the wine opengl translation not fast enough on a somewhat modern machine?

NVIDIA released the 415.22.01 Vulkan driver

Quoting: Cestusall i want from nvidia is VDPAU h.265 decode update! they didn't touch VDPAU since 2015!!!! O_o;
NVDEC is the new vdpau from what I had read, https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1033137/linux/whats-the-situation-with-vdpau-vaapi-nvdec-/ [External Link]. It works nicely here with mpv, even with Vulkan output.

NVIDIA driver 415.22 is out for Linux, finally adding Transform Feedback support

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoAnd, finally, the Nvidia 415.23 PPA has arrived!

It seems there was a bug in the 415.22 version that was fixed in the 415.23 version.

Fixed a build failure, "implicit declaration of function 'vm_insert_pfn'", when building the NVIDIA DRM kernel module for Linux kernel 4.20 release candidates.
From my understanding you will hit this bug only when running Linux kernel 4.20. This kernel isn't released yet, only release candidates are available, https://www.kernel.org/ [External Link]

For now, the experimental Linux (and Mac) port of ARMA 3 will not see any more updates

Yes, this is my opinion too. I had bought the base game and quite some DLC's and had some hopes that Linux would more and more catch up with the Windows updates. Obviously I'm somewhat disappointed but I don't blame Bohemia Interactive. They did everything right in their communication and never pretended false intentions.

Lets also not forget that this game still contains a solo campaign and multi-player between Linux people still works, similar to Feral's TW series.

Quoting: GuestI just upgraded to 415.22 and also noticed the reported Vulkan version drop from 1.1.92 to 1.1.84. Can anyone shed some light on the downgrade and how it affects Transform Feedback which, as I understand, came in 1.1.88?
415.18.* are Vulkan Beta drivers specifically meant for bleeding edge Vulkan support. The stable drivers are usually a bit further behind.
Yes, next to that the extensions are not that tightly linked to the specification version. So it seems perfectly doable to bundle an extension that was finalized in a higher specification update with a driver that actually implements a lower specification version.

and then it back to total warhammer lol and all those strat games
And some do play the game. Actually, having racing games would make a GNU/Linux system that much more attractive to quite a few of my friends. Just because you don't want this game doesn't mean all gamers with a GNU/Linux system share that opinion.
And this is exactly why i rather Wine and DXVK over Feral Ports, but Denuvo and EAC
Your sentence makes no sense to me. What are you trying to say?
