I genuinely wonder how performance compares to OpenGL, as L4D2 was one of the well-performing ports back then: http://web.archive.org/web/20200504112412/http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/linux/faster-zombies/

I just noticed a notification on my email and then found your review, noticing it's on Linux – I'm a fan of Metal Slug from the arcades, so this one is something I will definitely keep an eye out!

Quoting: STiATHmh, I could not find why they forked it from wine. As a dev branch to be faster paced than wine or is it for technical reasons?

I know wine is quite conservative, but was that the reason for the fork?

The reasons it was forked instead of keeping with original are mostly posted here: https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton#priorities

Basically it won't focus too much on older hardware if it's for game performance/compatibility reasons.

Wine might also care more about supporting other platforms and architectures Valve doesn't care too much (Mac, Android, ARM…).

I would also like to remind that Chromium is losing sync among some other functionalities; it will work only in closed-source Chrome. Here's the recent news from Arch Linux: https://archlinux.org/news/chromium-losing-sync-support-in-early-march/

Ludusavi seems like a pretty good open source game save backup tool

After having a good overlay with MangoHud I guess save backup tool is the next important tool that may be important for people switching over so it's good it's there :) Thee is a similar tool on GitLab called GBML (previously called SLSK on GitHub before moving to GitLab), but it unfortunately got its last update two years ago badly. I have yet to see this tool, but like I said it's nice to see some newer alternative that's also multiplatform!

EDIT: It also seems to take data from PCGamingWiki – it's a very Linux-friendly wiki so I encourage you to edit, especially add Linux save location for the native Linux games you play as that's where the data most likely comes from :)

Quoting: ShmerlValve might be sponsoring some work on improving Wayland compositors, since that's where Linux desktop is heading and having good gaming support in them should be important for Valve.

IIRC CodeWeavers started a work on Wayland for wine, so that might be a start for it.

I'm still patiantly await Wayland native Steam client too especially since Chromium got it, so we'll see.

IS there an easy way to see what libraries are PE and what are not? I see more and more being converted and I wonder what's left ;)

Project Zomboid, wish the multiplayer was there already but it's still a lot of fun solo with the new animations in beta :)
